Failed My Sleep Study!!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm anxiously awaiting my results. I slept maybe 2 hours, the sleep tech did say I slept here and there, so hopefully it satisfies my Dr, because I spoke to the nurse practitioner today, and she told me, no conclusive sleep study, NO SURGERY! waaaaaaaah!!!!!! Part of my problem is that I go to bed around 1:30-2:00 every morning, and wake up at 8. At the sleep study, last night they tried to have me go to bed at NINE THIRTY. There was no way. The tech did allow me to keep the TV on, not sure if that helped me or hurt me. Also, I had a really bad headache during the day and had to take excedrin, the only thing that makes my headaches go away. But it contains caffeine. Oops. My plan for next time, cause I'm almost sure theres gonna be a next time...its scheduled for the 14 of December, which is a Friday. I'm planning on pulling an all nighter on Thursday, going to work Friday, and being pooped on Friday night. Hopefully it works.

Ok so my second set of results came back...inconclusive! The sleep center called to have me come on for a consultation with their Dr. I saw him today, we talked about my sleep habits, tiredness during the day, he listened to my breathing, and measured my neck. We had a nice 20 minute chat and he was extremely pleasant.

Then, BOMBSHELL! He would write my Dr. a letter saying he does not believe I have sleep apnea. I told him mr surgeons office told me no sleep study, no surgery. He offered an alternative: a home sleep study!!! I'm so thrilled. Don't know why the sleep study freaked me out so much, maybe because its my last preop test and I put so much pressure on myself that I just couldn't relax. Either way, I will be contacted in a week for an appt, will go to the sleep center, have some sensors applied, and go home to sleep. Best news I have heard since my insurance approval!

Have you ever heard of Melatonin? You can get them at just about any health food store. I think Walmart carries them too. Get the 5mg and take two. They help me when I have trouble falling asleep (which is a lot). I have a really high tolerance to a lot of meds. I usually have to take a high dose of pain meds when I'm in pain etc., but was pleasantly surprised at how well the Melatonin works! Best of luck to you. I'm sorry you are having to do the study. I've seen a couple people on here that are required the study. Is it something your insurance requires, or your surgeon? I thankfully didn't have to do one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
