Liquid Consumption After Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello! I had surgery this past Monday (on the 21st). Supposedly at this point I am able to drink 43 ounces of Clear Liquids. However, I haven't even been able to hit 10 ounces! I take about 3 sips an hour and it's taking me forever. Iv'e had about 3-4 tablespoons of sf Jello throughout the day also. I'm not sure what to do. I feel kinda full. At least, I think it's full. I don't even know what I'm feeling to be honest. I just feel heavy in my stomach. Is this normal? I'm just concerned I'm not getting in enough liquids. Your input is appreciated! Oh and btw, besides some expected soreness at the incision sites, I'm doing pretty good! I haven't felt too much gas (unless THAT'S the heavyness I'm feeling??) and I haven't even had to take any pain medication. No nausea either. I've been trying to walk around the house as much as possible. I've taken a couple of 1 hour naps throuhout the day but I suspect that's more due to boredom than actually being tired.

You are still very much post-op recovery. No different than anybody else having any type surgery.

Do the best you can, it will get better every day.

I started climbing the walls after day 3 from cabin fever and had to get out and run some errands.

Stopped by my office on day 5, (payday) and hung out for a few hours.

Day 7 was my one week post-op follow up visit with the surgeon, then returned to work full time.

This to shall pass.

When I was one week post op, I called the dietician because I was concerned that I wasn't taking in enough liquids. She said that since I was urinating normally and not vomiting or sick to my stomach, then I was ok. She reassured me that I was still fresh post op. So, your appetite will come back. Give it time. Dont worry. Happy Thanksgiving! And welcome to bandster land!!

Just be careful... drink what you can and take your time drinking... your stomach still swollen and it may be a bit uncomfortable to drink liquids. In short time you will notice you are drinking better and feeling better. Took me about a full week to be drinking a sufficient amount of fluids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
