New Here! Day 5 After Lap Band Surgery!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! My name is Rebekah and I was banded on 11-18-11 and have found this forum to be very helpful! I am still home recovering and taking it easy. I had hiatal hernia repair, so I am taking a little bit longer to recover than I had expected. I am very excited about my journey and things have gone pretty well so far. I've not been sick at all, just uncomfortable from incisions. My surgeon was great and so was the entire staff at my hospital. Feel free to say hi and give me any advice you think I might find useful!!

Congratz! The first few weeks are tough. I admit, I thought it was going to be much worse that it actually was so I may have had an expectation advantage ;p Walking around and getting active as soon as possible was the key to my quick recovery. Gas-X and sugar-free popscicles kept my sanity and now I am beyond pleased with the results I'm getting. Have just had about a month on real food. (I was banded Last day of September) and feel great! Have lost 45 lbs already. You will do awesome!

Pay attention to you surgeon's instructions, and for goodness sakes, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!! Full means stop! Been the hardest thing for me so far. Good luck!

Hi! Don't do what I did...DO NOT EAT A BOILED EGG! I thought it was a good idea...WRONG!!! I had the hiatal repair as well and the egg hurt worse than anything...for about 3 minutes I felt as if a boulder was stuck in my esophagus! I didnt vommit but I sure wanted to...this was on day 10...Today is day 13 for me and I am still working on chewing better and eating slower. But it is a good idea to be intune with your body.

I agree with those telling you to walk as much as possible - keep yourself moving! Also - follow the diet your doctors office tells you to. Even tho we are all bandsters, every experience we have is unique - yours will be as well.

I wish you much success, and if you have questions, just ask.

Good Luck, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Rebekah, having gone to a Center of Excellence was almost a guarantee of success. You had a great hospital,

an your doctor was one of the best. Did you find them through research, or were they recommended? Whatever

that combination is as good as WLS gets. Congratulations and keep us updated on your progress.

ps. Who's that cutie with you?

Thanks everyone for the advice! Today has been really great. I got out for a bit this evening and did some shopping and treated myself to a pedicure. hehe. It felt good to move around. I really didn't feel any discomfort at all besides getting in and out of the car. My best friend drove because I didn't feel I was quite ready for that. Every day definitely is getting better.

I have been sticking to all liquids. I'm not brave enough to chance anything! I was very blessed to have the surgeon I had and the hospital. My family doctor actually recommended him to me and since his office is super close to my work, it all worked out. Couldn't have asked for a better experience prior to surgery and after.

I do have one more question. I tried earlier to make a tracker like the one many folks have on here and I'm not getting it right. Any help would be great.

Corrigan, that is my neice Zoey. She's the apple of my eye!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
