Not Loosing After 1 Year With Lap Band And Frustrated!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I just turned 1 year post surgery and this is not at all what I expected. I' m still vomiting and getting stuck with my food, which is not at all pleasant. Never the less, I have lost 43lbs. But honestly I expected that at this point I would have lost more.

This has been a really hard year for me. I'm trying to hang in there, but sometimes I question myself whether or not I should have had the surgery at all.

I don't blame anyone but myself because this was "My Choice". I have 6 cc's in my band and my surgeon seems to think that it's too tight. But if I am too tight thwn why I am I not loosing weight?

I am new to this forum and hopefully I will get some feed back that can help me, because at this point I don't know what to do.

Your doctor may be right because if it's too tight you will eat more slider type foods which equals slow or no weight loss. If he wants you to get a slight unfill then maybe you should test it out to see what happens...

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I am definitely eating slider food's because when I eat solids I take 2 bites and I go straight to the bathroom.

Sounds like your band is doing it's job. I may or may not say you are too tight.

I would say it sounds like you are not making the right food choices. Perhaps you have picked up some bad habits, and have learned the little secrets to eating around the band. Increasing your chances of getting stuck, and vomiting.

You may need to get self-motivated again.

IF it was me I would go on a straight liquid diet for 2-3 days, then mushies, then solids.

In other words, go back to what new bandsters have to learn during their post-op learning period from the start. (what I call boot camp - basic training)

Proper food selection, calorie counting, meeting daily Protein goals(and fiber) and getting plenty of Water.

If someone wants to cheat the band, they can. At the risk of getting sick all the time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
