16 Months Post Lap Band Surgery And Gaining Weight...help!!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am 16 months post lap band and am now gaining weight. I am starting to panic and do not know what I should do. I have gained 10 pounds in 3 months. I know I have made some poor drinking choices, eating choices etc. while going through a separation etc. Can someone tell me how to get back on track? Should I maybe go back to liquids for a bit? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you! :)

hello, I guess my 1st question is when was your last adjustment. If you have lost weight and never tighten it up, that could cause it. imagine your belt that you wear for your pants. you lose weight and your belt gets loose. you then move it in one notch. well you may need to adjust the band in a "notch"...... just a thought. Try the cottage cheese test. I have lost 7-8 pounds since my last adjustment but gained muscle weight from exercise and I can feel I have lost restriction. Not a big deal, I will just have the doc add a 1/2cc when I see him in december.

Look up the"Five day pouch test" in the search box or on Google. It's a simple, back to the beginning exercise

that has helped others get 'Back on track', and you may get some good out of it. It's free and simple, but it works

for some folks. I hope it helps you. After you finish it, You'll have to get back to work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
