How Much Weight Are You Losing Per Week After Lap Band Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I read a lot of posts where people are loosing a lot of weight each week and wonder why my doc says I should only lose 1 to 2 pounds a week?

As long as I lose 1 to 2 pounds they won’t give me another fill, they say i don't need it

I average about 1 to 1.5 pounds a week. I was told that if you lose more than 2 pounds per week you risk losing muscle, and nobody wants that!

Up until this week I was losing 1.5 to 2. Gained a pound this week. A lot of the big weight losses seem to be while folks are still on the liquid portion of the healing diet. I know mine was. I am happy with a slow but steady loss.

1 to 2 pounds a week is optimal weight loss. It's the healthy way to do it. Some people may experience more in the beginning of their journey, but the closer you get to goal the harder the weight loss will become and at that point, you may only lose half a pound a week. Up until my surgery, I was loosing about 2 pounds a week. Since surgery, I have stalled somewhat, but my doc says it's normal. I got my first fill yesterday, so we will see where I'm at next week. I hope that if I have lost 8 pounds or more, they won't need to do another fill.

I would think its better to lose 1-2 pounds a week. Otherwise you run the risk losing muscle and loose skin....eewwwww lol

The more you have to loose, the more that will come off per week.

I am close to my personal goal and it is hard to squeeze out a 1/2 lb a week. But as long as I am moving in the right direction that is all that matters.

Also, there becomes a issue as t what is muscle weight and what is fat. People are built differently, especially active sports orientated men.

I need to get on the scale that measures fat% as well as Water, etc. my 6 month program had one and it was a different way of looking at things.

Good to know I am normal

I understand but sure would like to speed things along

Did my official weigh in , usually on fri but I figure with Thanksgiving

Today I am 211.8 ---down 18 ½ pounds.....back to the weight I was 2 years ago when I joined the gym

Real happy with my weight loss so far glad I had the surgery

Wonder if I can meet my personal goal of being under 200 (even if it’s just an ounce) by my birthday

dec 30

I am just thankful that the numbers on the scale are moving down! Whether is be .5 pound or 2 pounds. It is all better then the upward movement that was happening before!

I am averaging about 3.7 pounds a week, but my doc said 1-2 pounds is usually normal. I work out a lot and luckily have no loose skin (well my arms a very little) and I do a lot of resistance training so I know I am building muscle.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
