Having Hard Time Feeling Lap Band Restriction

Recommended Posts

I got the "Plicated" Band on 7-26-11. I had a flipped port and had to have a port reassignment surgery on 10-10-11. I just finally got my first true fill on 11-15-11. I had a flouro fill and the PA seemed confident in the amount of Fluid 6 total ccs in a large band. I have lost 65 lbs since my surgery date, however, I do not feel the restriction I thought I would feel after having a fill. I have chugged Water trying to fill my pouch and have been unsuccessful. I am chewing more but have forgotten and swallowed things I expected to be too large to fit through the opening. I am full a little quicker, however, that full feeling does not last more than an hour or two. Am I expecting too much? Is what I am feeling normal? and my weight loss is it on par with the average? I should also add that I can eat anything at all. I hear that others have a really hard time with bread, I have not had any problem at all. I don't eat much bread because it hinders weight loss but I had to try it because I had heard so often that lapband patients cannot tollerate bread.

I think your weight loss is great .. well done :)

A large band normally has a capacity of 14 cc's so with a 6 cc fill u arent half way yet, for some that will be plenty for others they will need more, from now on the adjustment fills should start making a bigger difference, you may well find that 1 or 2 cc's more will start to really kick in, my last fill took me to 8cc's and i had to go yesterday and have 1 cc removed i could hardly eat or drink without it getting stuck, i probably wont need much more than a further .5 ccs.

So from now on it will be more fine tuning than 'big' fills.

Try not to see what u can 'get away' with eating, and if you are quite hungry u do tend to eat more quickly or chew less, old habits die hard :) so find a small snack low carb/low calorie, high protien for when the hunger gets to you, and eat from a smaller plate.

I am sure most of us hate feeling hungry, but lets be honest not one of us is starving, it tooks years to train our brains into thinking we need all this food and will take some time for them to adjust to feeling full with smaller portions.

good luck !

Water should always flow freely unless you have food in the pouch. It really sounds like you will need another fill or 2 but keep in mind to move ahead with solids very slowly now after your next fill. It sounds like it will get you to the point of having trouble if you don't chew things well.
