Hi all! I was banded on 11/18/11. This site is soooo helpful so I decided to make an account! Every day I start to feel better and better but I'm still gassy, and still haven't had a bowel movement so it's very uncomfy. I weighed myself today and I'm the exact same weight as the day of my surgery,, is that normal??

First of all Welcome Aboard !

It all sounds normal.

Water in, and Water out.

Your not eating so really nothing

to come out.

Just make sure you continue to

drink water, because eventually,

that will help you go..

Enjoy the sites, and learn from them...

Shirley.

According to my dietitian, lots of Water (64oz) and a glass of warm prune juice will help.

She said not to use chemical laxatives for 6 weeks. Hope this helps.

I was banded the same day as you! Maybe we can help each other along. I haven't weighed myself yet, but that's because I don't have a scale at home. Probably getting one tomorrow. I use an unflavored soy Protein in my broth and in my yogurt. I know this helps keep me "regular." I got it from GNC. Hope this helps you.

Welcome!! It is normal to not lose any weight for the first six weeks you have your band. Any weight lost during that time is just a bonus. You'll see this a lot, but everyone will tell you that the first six weeks are for healing :) I agree with Corrigan about the warm prune juice, while you're newly banded that's one of the best options to help 'get things moving.' Congrats on your band, and nice to meet you :)

Thanks again everyone,,, =) now I have a new question, or maybe just a statement lol little by little my appetite has been coming back and starting last night it's back with a vengeance! Lol and I'm trying my best to try and fill up with the Protein Shakes but it seems like if I get full, within like 2 hours in hungry again! Any suggestions??

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
