New To Site And Hoping For Some Answers After Being Banded 2 Years Ago

Recommended Posts

I'm new to this site hoping to maybe find some answeres. I was banded about 2 years ago without any issues. I'm down about 70 lbs and for the most part am very happy! I keep having bouts with right side flank pain & my doctor has no answeres. My gallbladder was taken out about a year after my band was put in, and my append. was taken out 25 years ago. My band dr sent me to a kidney doctor & they found nothing. I know it is band related because the pain will start immediatly after i eat...if i vomit, the pain stops immediatly. This only happens about 4-5 days a month. Has anyone had any similar experiences? Thanks for the info.....

It almost sounds like pain from eating too much. Have you tried eating real slow and a smaller portion to see if it is the restriction causing the pain? I saw a post somewhat like this earlier and that is what they thought it was in that situation as well. I know that I have not had this type of side pain but if I eat too fast and do not give my body and band enough time to let me know I am full then I hurt like I have just had a huge meal. Just a thought. Good luck!

I have pain on the left side on and off. Generally, it is about a week before my period, so I think that has something to do with it for me.

I have the same problem if I eat too much but the pain is on the left which is where my port is. One of the nurses at the Lap Band Center also has a band and said she has the pain too.

That is when it usually happens for me too...i know it's not that im eating to much or to fast & if it is really band, i even get the pain with liquid. Has your Dr. given you any ideas how it relates to your cycle?

My portion sizes are pretty small & stay the same day to day. It also happens with liquids but again only a few times a month. It's just annoying because the doctors all blame the other doctors saying it's their issue....thanks for the reply though!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
