First Fill - Lap Band Was Filled Completely And Then Gradually Unfilled As I Sipped Water

Recommended Posts

I posted about this in the October Bandsters thread and thought I would post about it here as well...

My wife and I had our first fills today. The process was interesting. The PA injected the needle and asked me to stand up with the needle still in my stomach. He completely filled my band with Fluid and asked me to take sips of Water. I could feel the water fill up in my chest. He then took fluid out until I could consistently swallow water comfortably. The amount of the fluid that was left in the band at this point was 3.8cc. He said I'd feel restriction for about 6-10 days. I'm scheduled for my second fill in 3 1/2 weeks.

I was unaware of this as a process. Has anyone else experienced this method? The logic of it makes a lot of sense to me. I'm cleared to keep getting fills this way every four weeks until I find my green zone.

Never heard of it being done that way but I guess it makes sense. I learn something new everyday on here. Good luck to you and your wife.

I've heard of this one. Basically it seems that people get to their green zone quicker. Hope it works well for you too

I have heard of doing it this way and it makes total sense to me instead of a little bit at a time every 6 wks, which takes forever to get to the green zone and is financially draining. Best wishes and I wish my practice did it this modern way.

Thanks for your comments and I'll keep you posted. I get to eat Mushies today after two days of post-fill liquid diet. I'm interested to see if I experience any restriction today.

I always have this method of a fill so its not new to me at all but im in the UK and its probably more standard here to do it this way than the US :)

That is exactly what my Dr. does with my fills, too. I think it is rather effective. I've only had two fills (albeit significant ones) and have very good restriction. It is a funny feeling sipping that Water though!

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST WAY TO GET A FILL!! You are lucky as am I, that we have doc's / PA's that do it in this fashion. I passed EVERYONE I know in reaching my goal in less than one year because of this method. Other doc's give whatever they give regardless of how much restriction you get out of it and then won't see you for 4-6 weeks, no matter what. It slows down the weight loss process and fills the doc's pockets. I know several people, including family members who have lap band, all of which get the...you get what you get method and they are still, years later working towards reaching their goal. I feel so bad when they see me and their jaws hit the floor knowing I had surgery years later and now I am done and they are still struggling. FEEL LUCKY MY FRIEND!!thumbup.gif

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
