My Fitness Pal

Recommended Posts

I wasn't sure where I should post this, I guess this forum is best.

I started a Myfitness Pal account today and I really like it so far. However, I don't like the nutrition goals that the system automatically plugs in based on your vital stats. It set me at 1200 calories and only 45 grams Protein. My nutritionist didn't specify a calorie range, but my protein should be between 60 and 90 grams per day.

If I adjust my calories down some and my protein up, how should I adjust the rest of the nutrition goals? Can I eat 1200 calories and still lose weight?

Tomorrow, I will have been banded three weeks. I lost during the preop diet and the first two weeks after, but this week I gained two pounds, then lost them. I'm not very hungry and I am having a difficult time meeting my minimum protein goal and I'm eating under 800 calories per day.

My doc's "Phase 3" is soft Proteins - yogurt, fish, poultry, legumes and tofu. No fruit, veggies, grains, or red meat.< /p>

Any advice would be very appreciated.

Dulci, 800 calories really isn't enough for you. There are a lot of reasons for stalls, the most common has to do with

glycogen storage and use. I have an article posted on here somewhere, look up glycogen in the search box. You

probably should be on, at least 900-1000. If you lose too fast, you'll lose muscle mass, and we don't want to do that.

11/2 to two pounds a week average is just about right. You'll have some weeks where you lose 4-6 lbs and others

where you'll lose none. Just keep on the diet your doctor gave you and you'll lose everything you want.

That was a great article. Thanks for pointing me to it.

Hi Dulci, I love my fitness pal too. It has helped tremendously! But you're right, you can't set your limits manually. That's the only thing I don't like about it. Just set your Protein and cals where you want them and you'll have to guesstimate on the other. If it helps, I have my carbs set at 45% (100g), Protein 35% (88g) and fats 25% (28g.) I try to eat less carbs though. I have my cals set at 1000 right now but I let that depend on whether I'm losing or not. I play around with my calories to see what happens from week to week.

Hope this helps. Let's keep in touch, maybe we can help each other out......Rhonda thumbs_up.gif

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
