I went to my primary care doctor this morning and I am finally under 200 lbs. I honestly can't remember the last time I weighed less than 200. I have been hovering for a couple months but I think I'm finally in the "green zone" so the scale started moving! I'm so excited. Also, my fasting blood sugar was 102 and my blood pressure is in the normal range. Yeah!!!

I had surgery on 1/11/11. My fasting blood sugar in Oct/Nov of 2010 was 176. I went in for labwork in April 2011 and my blood sugar had gone down to 134 and now it's 102. That's pretty amazing. I started Zumba in May so for the first time in a long time I was putting diet and exercise together and it's paid off. Now, I'm genetically screwed when it comes to cholesterol and triglycerides but I thought I would do a little test on my own. In April, my cholesterol had gone down to 226 just from having surgery and losing about 20-25 lbs. My statin rx ran out in Sept so I decided to not refill it and just see if I could control with diet and exercise.....Well according to my lab work today, my Chol went back up to 277 and my LDL went from 133 to 192 so I've got to go back on a statin. Oh well, like I said, it's genetic. I'm just so excited to break 200 and have a normal blood sugar!

I'm with BCBS Federal so lap band was covered. My BMI was just under 40 but I had high chol and high blood sugar so I got approved. Thank the good Lord! Best thing I've ever done for myself....wish I would have done it sooner instead of spending the majority of my 40's being fat and not enjoying life. This isn't for everyone but it's been really good for me. I had an very unhealthy relationship with food even though I ate a healthy diet for the most part, I just ate too much of what I could have. Fortunately, I buy, eat and cook real food (so many people eat every meal out from a convenience store or fast food) and I wasn't ever a big soda drinker so it's made living the with band easier. I understand nutrition and feel like I've created a balanced diet to be healthy. It does take a while to get the hang of it and find the right amount of restriction, etc. I really pays to have a great doctor and nurses who care about you, answer questions and don't just treat you like a number. I would highly recommend you purchase the book titled Band Wagon. It will be very helpful to you since you're in the beginning stages. It's literally a step by step walk through of a real person's experience with the band. I wish I would have had it before I had surgery. Good Luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
