Hello, I have been considering banding for over a year. I live in the boonies and just found a dr. about 25-30 miles away who does this proceedure... I am determined to call for an appontment tomorrow. about how long does it generally take from first appointment to surgery?

A lot depends on whether surgery is covered by insurance, which involves more hoops as oposed to self-pay, which is generally much faster.

Grasshopper, the length of the journey is different for everyone, it is reaching the destination that counts.

Welcome to the board, your surgeon will be able to lay out what he/she needs done.

For example, in Boise ID, it can take anywhere up to 6 weeks to get a sleep study (and thats a frequent requirement).

So speak to that surgeon and get yourself on your journey :)

Welcome to LBT!!! It could take a few months or just a few weeks depending on if you file with your ins.company! Good luck and hang in there the band is well worth the wait!!!

I was a self pay and it still took me 3 months to get everything in order to have my surgery. It would have been longer if my insurance had covered it.

Welcome to LBT! Like everyone said it depends on your doctor and insurance. Make the appointment and he will give you an idea of how long it might take. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the encouragement, but I just found out that the only dr. in my area that did lapbands, no longer does this. So, I guess it is back to research for someone who will.

It took me forever, but I'm due to be banded in about 3 weeks. No matter what I believe it's worth it. Hang in there and keep going. I get more and more excited everyday, escpecially with the support and help from this site.

There has to be a dr. some where within 40 miles that does this.

Today, I called the dr.'s office that advertised that he did it, and they referred me to another dr. down in Westchester County, NY City which is over 120 miles south from where I live....go figure?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
