Almost 30 pounds and no size difference.

Recommended Posts

This seems really weird to me that I have lost almost 30 pound and although my clothes are a bit loser, not much has changed in that department. Is this normal? I lost a lot weight with Atkins a few years ago and I was down a size by this time. I think I am scared I am losing muscle and not fat :( I am almost 3 weeks post op.

Heck, I've lost 80 pounds and I can still wear some of my big clothes...granted, they are very roomy, and I guess i have officially only dropped a couple of sizes. If i confess the truth, my clothes were probably really tight on me when i was wearing them pre-weight loss and I suspect i was actually a size or so larger than i thought i was, sooooo i don't know what to tell you. it will change eventually, just hang in there, 26 pounds is awesome.

Yeah I really shouldn't complain. I am grateful for the loss. I think I was just hoping for at least one size difference. But you are right, my jeans are less snug, so that's a start.

in the pants department, my changes started happening a little faster than in the shirt department. i can still wear the same size shirts, but my pants won't stay up without a belt. i bought a new pair of jeans 2 weeks ago 2 sizes down and they were snug...today they fit loosly. but still in a big top.

i'm hoping that my top and bottom find some common ground. i would hate to be just a belly walking around on skinny legs.

I think we probably squeezed ourselves into our clothes and if you were like me they were stretchey maybe?? Excercise has changed the size and way my clothes are fitting. I have lost 80lbs and got banded May 5th 2011 :)

Sometimes when we have a large amount to lose, it takes a while to change sizes. Now that I am a 12 I can tell you at first It was 25-30 pounds to go down a size and now that I am smaller it seems to be 10 to 15. Don't worry about it, it will happenbiggrin.gif

exactly...i'm pretty sure i squeezed as much as i could into my clothing just so i didn't have to go up to a number that was ugly

and hey, we were banded one day apart and we seem to be in the same place in our weight loss...cool B)

Hi Kellysue...........I totally agree with you! I have lost 42 pounds to date and I am still able to wear the pants that I was wearing pre-band. Yes there is a slight difference in the fit, but I hoped I would NEED to buy a size smaller. It hasn't happened yet. I think being able to buy and fit into a smaller size would give me MORE motivation. Right now I am at the point that I don't want to put on clothes because I get disappointed. I do admit that they were very fitted, but I thought 42lbs would a least give me 1 size down.

I am at 38 pounds and have only gone down one size and am nowhere near the next smaller size. But like Dibley said, I was probably a larger size than I thought I was since everything I wore was tight and stretchy. It will happen for all of us eventually. But I understand the frustration of wanting to see the sizes drop as well as the pounds.

i kinda look at it this way....i must have gained 60 pounds in about 2 years time but i didn't change clothing sizes. that's probably why i didn't really notice how much weight i had gained...i just knew that i felt bad and getting around was more difficult. a lot of weight can go into the upper sizes and a person who weighs 300 pounds might be able to wear the same size shirt as a person who weighs 250.

i think if you just concentrate on losing and hang on to those old big clothes until they are falling off of you, then when you buy, you will be able to buy 2 or 4 sizes down. i don't want to blow a ton of money on a new wardrobe that i know i will be changing eventually, so i'm kinda happy at the moment that most of the old clothes are still fitting me. except for my pants...but dresses and shirts are still fitting like a dream.

Excellent insight...............think I will start to think a little different now. Financially I am not in the position to buy many new clothes, so wearing them until they are about falling off is kinda beneficial.

I seen a difference at about 50Lbs.... Otherwise I lost weight, and I still looked the same.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
