I am two and a half weeks out of surgery. I started eating this week (3 oz. Protein, 2 oz. fruit/veggie- per meal and 3 dairy). I am hitting about 800 calories a day, between 65-80g of protein. For exercise, I am walking about 1-1/2 miles per day. I am consuming about 50-80oz. of liquids. I haven't lost any weight in two weeks, tired all the time. and today the moodiness set in. I can't focus at work and cry at anything emotional. Did any of this happen to you? I feel so lost today....

I remember feeling run down and moody post op. I was mostly tired and when I am I tend to get emotional. I think the lack of food which gives your body energy takes a toll at first. My dr only had me on liquids for the first 72 hrs, then mushies, which helped, and then at day 5 I was back on food with substance, and I insantly felt better. Hang in there, once your body gets fuel you will start to feel better. Good luck!

While this didn't happen to me after surgery, this has happened to me in the past. In my case, I was training a lot and wasn't taking in enough calories for the activity. I raised my calorie intake, started feeling much better, and the weight started dropping as well. Have you talked to your doc or nutritionist? You could always try to limit your workouts or raise the calories a little, to see if you feel a difference. I hope you figure it out. I know it is a miserable feeling.

I dont think its a lack of calories...800 is plenty unless you are an NFL player. I think its perfectly normal and it is due to the stress and continued wound healing from the surgery...dont let it make you eat more to feel better! We all know where that got us! Just hang in there you should be springing back to your normal self very soon.

Totally normal-- you're going through a HUGE life change, which is incredibly stressful. Feeling down and/or angry is a normal part of the healing process in my opinion.

I think it's totally normal to feel the way you do. It's also totally normal not to lose any weight during this stage. Don't worry too much! I think you're on the right track :)

Give yourself a break! 1.5 miles a day two weeks after surgery is amazing! I will be at three weeks post-op on Friday, and I will have been on liquids for 3 weeks (not counting the two weeks before surgery!) My doc told me no working out (except walking) for three weeks, and liquids only for three weeks. Sooo...take a rest! Don't push yourself so hard. You will lose the weight, but you have to let yourself heal and (my doc and my mom the nurse says) it takes months until you are healed completely, sometimes even years. I'm not expecting the weight loss to take years...but I see the band as sort of like piercing your ears times 100. It took a loong time until I could wear heavy, dangly earrings without pain, and until the ears were completely healed and I no longer had to worry about them closing up. I think the band is sort of like that. Just let yourself heal! Personally, aside from a few short walks, I haven't worried about excersize or calories at ALL. I'm drinking until I feel full and i'm relaxing and sleeping a lot and I've lost 33 pounds! Just went back to full time days at work on Monday. You just have to do everything gradually and have patience with the process.

I was banded on October 28. I can understand how you are feeling and I agree with the above posters. Slow down on the walking, relax a bit and be kind to yourself while you are healing.

Feel better, it will all come together for you.

Once you move from liquids back to real food your weight loss slows down for a couple weeks. Don't worry, it will pick back up again soon!

I was an emotional wreck the first month or so. I was mourning food and learning how to deal with stress/life without food as my comfort. Take it one day at a time! You seem to be on the right track....keep doing what you are doing and the weight will start coming off again! Good Luck! :D

You just put it into perfect words! Mourning food! I had my surgery in June of this year. For the first couple of weeks, I was depressed and couldn't figure it out.

I think it is a huge lifestyle change. Almost like we lost a close friend? I am now a little more than 5 months post surgery and have lost 46 pounds so far. Feels great!

Good times will come. Just believe!

Youve made a life change and thats hard. Youre truly facing being a different person, and no matter how much you wanted to let go of the old one, theres an element of grief there.

You will get past this believe me ! It's all part of healing. Even the emotions are very real, and they are all over the place. Soon they will get back into shape (Hormonal, it can be terrible.) once the weight loss kicks in.

Don't knock yourself out to hard, in working out. Don't want to Burn Out ! If you are fine with it, then that's great.

Once it starts to come off, it will keep coming off, until it stops, and then you start losing inches.

So either way ! ! ! You still Loose !

Try to be patient. It will start for you when it's time.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
