Energy Level is very low

Recommended Posts

Do any of you find that your energy level is really low? I am really stuggling to make myself do any chores at home. I tend to do what I need to do at work but at home I just vegitate. I don't have anyone left at home anymore... just the dogs and I don't feel like doing anything. Is it because of the low calories? Is there anything that I can take to pump my energy level up?

I find that when I take a B12 Vitamin I can tell a difference in my energy level...it really seems to help. I take the Losenges that melt in your mouth in 30 seconds..so no worry about taking something that will get stuck!! Hope this helps!

The first question that pops in my mind are you getting your Protein in? As Jamie pointed out B12 is another common issue for those who are low on energy.

Also are you taking a multi-Vitamin? I take Centrum chewables each night and some veggie pills because I hate green veggies. I have found that my energy has gone way up since I started doing this and religiously drinking my Protein each day.

Also do you have issues with Thyroid. My energy levels were really low for awhile....come to find out I was hypothyroid, B12 deficient, and low Iron. All notorious for making energy levels low. This was presurgery...so my primary care doc had me coming in for weekly b12 shots to boost it and started me on iron supplements along with thyroid medicine. I've felt much better for about 5 months, but I noticed my energy levels are dropping again, my weight loss has slowed, there is alot more hair in my brush again, and my hands and feet are always cold. I'm going to be making an appointment soon to get my levels checked again. I had hoped as I lost weight that the thyroid at least would level out or get better, but i don't think that is the case.

I so understand what that feeling is like. A few things can do that for me, low B12, not enough Water or protien, and depression.

I have Fibromyalgia and chronic fatique syndrome so it's par for the course.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
