Headaches After Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

I have had my lap- band for 3 years. I am what you call a geriatric bander. I regret having it placed and can't wait to get it out of my body. It has been a plague. I have been sick and plagued with Migraines and chronic sinusitis since. Being a nurse and just to note, I try to discourage anyone from having this done. It's also painful everytime I eat. " They" have checked it many times and never seem to find anything wrong with it. If I can give any advice at all, save yourself from all that exposure to radiation from fills and do it right the first time.... Have a gastric sleeve! Thank you! And I thought this was going to make me healthier? I can't even work now, the migraines are so bad...It has ruined my life!

Thank you for your motivational post. Sorry it didn't work out for you. It's working great for me and I love it! I hope the sleeve cures what ails you

My headaches have stopped since I got banded. I used to get a couple a week - now none.

I too never suffered from headaches. Last April they started. I was banded in May 2009. I have seen neuro. and have had a neg MRI. I also have seen a chroiprac., nothing has helped. The headaches are with or after eating. Also have seen a dental specialist as well as TMJ...Just now I have begun to believe it could be related to lap band. I have lost 70 pounds very slowly and am happy with results..but these h/a are awful. I have a diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia by exclusion but I do not believe I have this...Any input is so welcome.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
