Hi guys!

I'm a bit curious about something. I have read a ton of blogs and it appears that everyone is put on different post op diets and I have also read that many people have had different weight loss. I was wondering if maybe the post op diet has anything to do with the way you lose weight in the long run. My diet right now is 2 weeks liquids (no sugar), 1-2 weeks mushies then solids. What were some of your diets and how much have all of you lost?

I am almost two weeks out and almost lost 30 pounds. Last friday I went to a basically normal diet, but softer foods. I am in the camp of eat anything but keep it under 1000 calories. I eat healthy and am losing. I don't get enough Protein though. I am working on it.

Thanks for the response KellySue. What was your diet at first? What have the stages been?

I was a week liquid, one week full liquid/mushie, then what I am now which I don't think it has a name. It's not regular, but I think they call it full.

My doctor did not require a pre-op diet although I took it upon myself to go on one and lost about 15 pounds. My post op diet was 2 weeks of Clear Liquids followed by 2 weeks of full liquids then gradually added solids. After a fill I am on full liquids for 12-24 hours. I have lost 151 pounds in 3 1/2 years (115 the first year).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
