Don't know what to do!! :(

Recommended Posts

Today is the 4th day of my pre op diet and I've already lost 7 pounds! Yay. However, on the second day, I started to throw up after my third Protein Shake, yesterday, I started to feel nautious after my 3rd one again. Which, by the way, I'm supposed to have between 5 and 6 a day! So today, I decided to get a different Protein Drink even though I'm not supposed to. Well, I just had the first one and that made me nautious too! I can't keep going like this! I'd rather not eat anything then have to drink these drinks! I'm allowed to have some non starchy vegetables if desperate, and I'm beginning to think maybe that's all I should have. That and Water. What do you think? Any suggestions? I know everyone says the pre op is bad, and yeah, that's all fine and dandy. But I refuse to feel continually sick to my stomach and throwing up. Thanks!

Which kind are you using? I was given a choice... They recomended the Baratric fusion shakes, (4-5 a day) or the SF Carnation Instant Breakfast (5-6 a day) I chose that. I don't like the taste of the other, but I like the SF Carnation...I still drink them for breakfast most mornings with a scoop of non fat instant milk added to it for more Protein. Hope this helps!

I was given a choice between 4. I chose the GNC 100% whey as the other 3 I can only get online. Bariatric Fusion was one of them. I went to Walmart and got the Pure Protein Shakes. I'll try those SF Carnation Instant Breakfasts though. Do you know how much protein they have in them? Thanks for the help! :)

You will hear EVERYONE tell you to get your Protein FIRST. This is something that can not be avoided after surgery for many reasons such as healing and muscle mass and nutrition. Keep searching to find something you can tolerate such as Isopure, nectar, or an unflavored protein. Good Luck

My experience with the Protein Shakes made me extremely nautious too. I think because I wasn't use to that much Protein. I'd say start with half of a drink instead of doing the entire thing. Eventually I was able to drink the whole thing with no problem. You definitely need the protein, but its probably your bodys way of telling you its too much at once. Give it some time and hang in there. You're doing a great job!

Thanks! You are probably right about my body just not being used to that. I will follow your suggestion!

i just drank the slim fast drinks and carnation instant breakfast drinks.

I looked at the Slim Fast shakes and they only have 10 grams of Protein in them. The ones the doctor wanted me to have has 21. But if I'm overdosing on protein, maybe I need to have something with less in it. Thanks!

Just wondering if you are doing any better on the shakes?

I tried a different one which still made me nautious. I finally bought the carnation instant breakfasts yesterday and I really like them. I'm already down 8 pounds so I'm not going to stress out about it. I couldn't handle the constant feeling of being sick. I figured I'd stick with 2 to 3 carnation breakfasts and if needed, have a serving of non starchy vegetables. Thanks for asking! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
