Another reason I love my Center of Excellence doctor, the aftercare was and is phenomenal. You need to write up how you were treated by the nurse and send it to your physician. If he/she doesn't know how the nurses are handling you after surgery, it cannot and will not be corrected for others. I am thankful I was able to stay overnight in the hospital with caring bariatric specialty nurses.

I found that just taking a small sip of liquid, often helped. All that tasted good to me was Crystal Lite sunrise (a orange flavor)

My suggestion is keep trying different flavors, and try adding a little to your Water.Try some herbal tea if you have it, just slightly warm, not hot. I had to have everything watered down for awhile. Every day should get easier for you. Good at doing the walking. You may also find sitting up even if for brief periods of time may help you also. I also had some issues, then a few days from surgery I started to feel human again. Hang in there.

I hope this helps you some. :)

Has anyone struggled with a weak nervous feeling. Iam 4 days post op and would feel great if it wasnt for this weak nervous feeling. Iam wondering if its attributed to not eating enough. Have also had tightness in chest but that and waist still swollen but thats bearable just need to get over this one hurdle and would feel great. Put on this morning a pair of old jeans that were to tight, slid right into them, that was a good feeling but the swollen waist didnt allow me to keep on long. Good luck to everyone, take care and keep in touch.

You sound like a normal post op patient to me. You only need Water at this point. You could go weeks without food but dont worry you wont! I feel you probably should have stayed overnight but I am guess you are already a tiny bit better...keep us posted!

I feel so bad. I can hardly get Water down, not because of the band but because of the nausea/pain in my chest. I tried to sip on some V8 splash and got maybe an ounce down. Nothing sounds good at all. Like the thought of anything but water makes me start gagging. How long is it safe to go with out taking in any calories? Any suggestions on how to handle this. And please someone tell me this won't last much longer! I am walking for 5 min an hour when I'm awake...

I know others have said it - but drink Water. The goal is 64 oz/day for most people, but really, I wasn't anywhere close to that. No appetite is normal, don't worry. I had a "hack and release" (as previously stated), but it was a wonderful experience. I had the kindest, most caring staff and I wouldn't change a thing. It all depends on what type of surgery center you choose. Surgery was at noon, left at 3pm, home at 3:30 and resting with liquid pain meds for 48 hours, then no meds at all. I believe I would have been more stressed out at a hospital (especially staying overnight), then resting at home with my dad helping me.

Sorry to hear you're suffering. I was banded on October 17, 2011. For the first three days after surgery I lived on a codeine based pain medication, gasex strips, Water and apple juice. I had chest pains/gas pains and found that if I slept/rested in an inclined position, I felt better. After 3 days, I stopped taking the pain meds and gasex. For one month after surgery, my diaphram muscles hurt and I always seemed to be yawning or taking deep breaths (My surgeon said that was normal). That has finally stopped and I now feel normal again. This surgery really took away my energy for about a month, but I can happily say that I am now back to normal. I hope you feel better soon, but realize it may take a while for you to feel normal again. Good luck!

I got my band on Nov 14. I was able to spend the night in the hospital and I think it helped a lot. I dont think anybody should be sent home unprepared.

The first 2 nights home were the worst. The chest and shoulder pain were annoying and definately uncomfortable. The gas is finally starting to move and pass. I did use the gas X but i cant say with any certainty how much is helped. The nausea hasnt been too bad but occasionally i get a queasy feeling. Doc made sure I had liquid pain meds as well as liquid anti nausea medicine. Its sad that all doctors dont take good care of their patients post op.

Getting in the liquids and Protein has been a challenge. That "full" feeling from the swelling is a deterrent to putting anything in my mouth. I know that staying hydrated is the most important right now so I put unflavored Protein powder in my crystal light. I have no desire for food but have made an effort to put unflavored Protein Powder in some sugar free pudding and today I plan to put it in yogurt. I have been sipping home made chicken broth as well.

I guess if we just use the term, slow and steady, we will gain confidence in our ability to do what we need to. I managed to get in one, 8 oz shake yesterday and plan to try to get at least 2 in today. Dont get discouraged, as we heal, im sure it will become easier.

I was sick for 2-weeks after surgery, but I was able to keep sugar-free freezies down and some juices. You need to call your doctor for meds that will help with the sick feeling. I know exactly how you feel, but honestly it will go away and you will feel like a new person!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
