May Not Need a Fill?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on October 4, 2011 and since then I've had periods of doubts in the stories I had watched over the year on YouTube where every single week,, some of the persons were down 4-5 pounds weekly. Since I was banded it took 3 weeks for the scale to change for me. However I could see changes in my clothes, and my body. I have read posts here of people starving while in the liquid phase after surgery and even during the mushies. I'm so thankful, those are problems I don't have. I tell you I'm actually full after each meal for hours! My 3 meals a day, consist of my eating no more than 1 o 1 and 1/2 cup of food. This band seems to have 'quieted down my hunger sensations. My breakfasts for about 4 days a week is the powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein Powder, 1 cup of skim milk, I add a few frozen strawberries and 1/4 cup of yogurt and it's absolutely delicious! Sometimes I add a smidgen of Splenda, that drink keeps me full until lunch time. I will see my surgeon for my second visit since my surgery on Nov 15, but I see no reason to request a fill. (Sometimes I have to make myself eat because I know my body needs fuel)

I have dropped at least 2lbs a week since week 3 and I'm really happy with that. At first I was discouraged because of the things I had seen on YouTube. Now I have 14 pounds to go before I move into Onderland. I haven't had an episode of being stuck, of feeling like I'm going to throw up,nothing of the sort. Sometimes I have to actually touch my stomach to make sure I have a lapband. It seems to have taken off the "edge" of that overwhelming hunger issue. Is this what it is suppose to do?? Each week, I can fit into some of my clothes that are 16, and before my surgery I was wearing size 18 & 20's depending on the style of clothing.

Some of the stories of those "starving" here amazes me but I guess that wasn't really my issue before I had my surgery. I wasn't a really big big eater, it was just I was eating the wrong foods (fried, cheesy everything etc.) & drinking a lot of Pepsi, that I believe put the weight on me over the years. I don't know if it is the "protein" I'm taking in at least 60 grams a day ( that keeps me satiated) per the nutrionist orders (or the Band). I am now exercising (treadmill or Walk away the Pounds) 4x weekly. I am loving watching how my body is changing.

So I see no reason to push for a "fill" when I see my surgeon, do any of you? I have seen posts of those that have the band and are not "filled" my surgeon said to me on my post op visit that we would wait and see, because some people don't need a fill. I'm hoping I'm one of those people.

Well I just wanted to update, as I haven't been posting for awhile, but I also wanted some feedback. I hope this may help anyone who also was expecting to see weight dropping off like those posted on YouTube. If, I can lose 2 lbs a week, eating my 1200 or less calories, believe me.. I can accept that with a lot of Thankfulness as opposed to where I was before. I'm so glad I got the LapBand.. It's bringing me out of a "shell" I was hiding under for over 10 years. I'm in LapBand Heaven, even though I have 55 more pounds to lose, I heading in the right direction and that's what counts!!!

That's awesome! I too didn't experience the constant hunger. I was and am so thankful for that. I've only had one fill and I'm 3 and 1/2 months post op. I didn't get my first fill until 10 weeks post op, i believe. That's about when my hunger was really starting to come back. I knew I needed a fill because I was starting to get hungry about every three hours. Since my fill I get hungry about every 5-6 hours.

Some people may never need a fill... But eventually at some point they do. I'm sure your doctor won't give you one because your weight loss Meeks right on track and your hunger is controlled! Enjoy it!

I feel like I am in the exAct same place as you. I am 41/2 weeks post op. Saw surgeon yesterday and we decided i do not need a fill yet. My weight has been steadily dropping, and my appetite is being controlled by the band. So why mess with success, as the saying goes. I am sure I will need a fill at some point, just not yet. And I am also 13-14 lbs from onederland.

Cheers,

Arlene

If you don't feel you need a fill, definitely don't get one. I had my hunger controlled for the first 5 months without a fill. I never really went through banister hell, so like you I don't understand when people post that they're starving 3 days post op or whatever. After those 5 months I started getting more hungry and I got a fill which my doc only gave me 0.75cc, not really enough to do anything. After that I decided, that though I was hungry those 5 months gave me the motivation and taught me how to eat right, so I decided no more fills. I now have boosted my metabolism (will not say how because it is very different from being a bandster), and I do not eat like someone who has the band and I'm still losing. I know if I ever get a fill I will get stuck, since I don't even chew the way a person banded should. But I've taught myself other good habits and I'm losing, so that's all I care about.

I also don't find the need for a fill right now. I have been losing steadily since being banded July 25th. I am averaging about 2 lbs or more a week....which is fine with me as long as it continues. If it stops then I will consider a fill. I do feel restriction so maybe I got some fill during the intitial surgery?? Don't know....don't care....as long as its doing the job. CAT

Hey Arlene, glad to hear you are having the same success without a fill.. Congrats on a job well done, now we both must support each while we head to Onderland :D

Yes, most definitely! Getting under 210 will be my first major victory because in three years of getting as close as 212, I couldn't get there. I would give up, then bounce up to the 220's or 230's. 237 is my all time high this past summer. So, this time there is no turning back! I can't even imagine the feeling of saying good bye to the 200's. FOREVER! Lol.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
