New Here - Banded 2/8/06

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Wednesday 2/8 and I guess I feel ok. I still have a lot of stabby pains from the gas. It's espeically bad in my back.

Did anyone eat solids or soft foods early? My nurse said that the band doesn't provide much restriction for me and that I would progress faster on the post-op diet then others but hell - I've already had a chicken finger (chewed well) and a 1/2 serving of oatmeal.< /p>

I'm serously hungry.

I don't think I get a fill until 6 weeks.

Hi Cashley! I was banded on 2/6 and still having trouble getting liquids only down. I can't imagine eating "real" food right now, but I know there are a lot that do at this post-op point.

The more Protein you get into you, the less hungry you'll be. There are some Protein shake mixes out there with tons of Protein in them.

Generally, the first fill out is 6 weeks. Your stomach needs to heal from the placement of the band. Don't go to quickly with solids; you don't want to have complications or slow healing.

Good luck!

I've been drinking Dr. Atkins Protein shakes and my nurse recommended Boost High Protein for the two weeks after surgery. I've been drinking two or three since Wednesday.

I didn't eat a big chicken finger it was just a sample at Sam's while shopping. I chewed and chewed too.

The oatmeal on the other hand isn't allowed until 2 weeks in.. I don't think I can wait that long for more oatmeal.

I'd really like something less sweet... the Protein Shakes, the yoguart, the pudding are all really sweet. I can't stomach anymore chicken brooth since it taste so salty now.

Any ideas of something "non-sweet" during the liquid phase?

I'm going to call my nurse on Monday to see if Oatmeal is ok right now. If she said yes to it... I think i'd survive.

Oh, I forgot -- my dr said low-fat creamed Soups are OK, too. I had cream of vegetable in the hosp and cream of chicken the other night. Because I'm still feeling a lot of restriction from the swelling, I didn't have too much of the LOL but they are "allowed".

I'll try the baby cereals. I'm feeling rather full tonight so I guess that's a good sign.

It's weird though that some people are so restricted that liquids are hard but I barely feel restriction.

Hello, I was banded Feb 3rd, and I too am in a similar situation. Absolutely no restriction. It's very frustrating because you feel perfectly normal and feel that you could eat anything! I eat soft boiled eggs, yogurt, slim fast shakes, oat bran mixed with apple sauce and lots and lots of clam chowder.... Hopefully that helps you... but I too CANNOT WAIT to feel some restriction. I have only lost 6 pounds and I am eating SOOOO much less. It's nice to know I am not the only one!

No, uh huh, nooo way, not me. I can't even swallow liquids. I am supposed to drink like 32 oz per day and am having trouble with that. No wonder I already lost 10 lbs. I still have pain, feels like someone is sitting on me. Don't even want to think about eating foods yet. Surgery was on the 14th so only 4 day ago. I'll stick to gatorade, Soup broth and Jello for the rest of the week.

Tried to do my ticker and it doesn't look right. Can someone tell me how do to the ticker??? Do I have to cut and past it every time??? Can I put it in my journal too?? Thanks

Hi folks! I was banded on 1/25/06 and am 3 weeks post op. I was sick of chicken broth too. I lived on sugar free fudgesicles, cream of potato Soup (strained), cream of mushroom soup and other cream Soups. They tasted wonderful after all the broth. I also had low fat yogurt. It all went down fine. I found that if I were hungry, about mid-morning I would drink 20 oz. of crystal light and the same in mid-afternoon. I got creative one night when I fixed pork chops for my family. I took the pork chops out, put cr. of mushroom soup in skillet and had soup that had the pork flavor to it. (but we routinely use the m. soup for gravy on meat and/or potatoes.) It did give it a nice taste! Be creative.... Thank God though for those sugar free fudgesicles during that time!!

Just because you can eat those things, don't mean you should! The liquid phase is to let you heal, for your stomach not to churn/work. If you are eating solids so soon, you are taking a chance of hurting/losing your band. Please follow your doctors orders people!

I just thought I would reply that iluvharleys is right. My doctor's take home orders said I could start those things I listed in my previous post 5 days after surgery if I was good to go. Everyone should go by their doctors orders!!

My docotor said that some people progress faster then others and that it's not about healing so much as letting the swelling go down enough so you don't puck. He said that puck'ing was the worst thing right now but if I could comfortable get down mushys before is was time then "No Problem".

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
