Stomach Rumbling After Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Darlene and I am new to this forum. My stomach rumbles and make strange noises, it is almost like it is hungry, but I am full. I mentioned this to my doctor and he said it was because I was eating healthier now. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. I also get the hiccups and burp alot.

Thanks for your replies.

Gas X dissolving strips. It is natural at this stage, but the strips help get rid of some of the rumblings.

Welcome to band world. Where things go creak and squeak and bump in the night ( and the rest of the day too). It is usually at it's loudest when you are in a room with other people and there is a lull in the conversation!

I think the rumbling is gas and I heard that burp/hiccups means your full. I know it always happens when I'm done eating. Who knows?

Wait, what?! Hiccups?? How did I miss this important information?? I get the worst hiccups now, when I get them. It winds up being painful. And you're saying I'm going to get them more? Man... If I had known this before, it might have been a deal breaker. (not really :D ) But still!

The hiccups are the worst.

I just got banded Monday and I noticed the hiccups, that is the least of my worries. The gas is still doing somersaults all over my body. I am so miserable at times I don't even care about etiquette and let it go whenever where ever. The best thing about it is it smells like vanilla from all the Protein Drinks. I have tried the Gas x followed by going shopping and it helps a little. I even thought about having sex, but too scared to try. While I am on the subject...

My stomach rumbles all the time now. My friends say they dont hear it but it seems so loud to me. I get the hiccups when my stomach is full. Usually just 2 and then it stops.

The hiccups are usually from excess air in your belly..do NOT use straw, smoke or drink carbonated beverages and you'll be fine! I don't ever get the hiccups and I rarely burp. BUT I do rumble..all the time. I can be hungry or full it doesn't matter. I think it's because the food actually can move since I am not so full all the time. I have been banded for 3 and a half months and I dont' regret a second of it!! Good luck all ;)

My doc told me the painful hiccups and burps are from not chewing good enough. So I started to watch how well I was chewing my food and the hiccups stopped. As for the rumbling, I didnt have an issue with that until recently and I have been banded for 8 months. Mine is accompanied by Sharp stomach pains. I have been to the ER a few time and to the Doc, test and xrays even a cat scan showed everything looked fine in my stomach area and port, so I started a process of elimination with my diet and realized I am lactose intolerant/sensative. May not be the case here of course, especially if there is no pain with it, but if it starts to get that way you may look in to :)

I work in an office and my tummy growls alot. I'm not hungry, I only get hiccups when I eat too fast and they hurt! If not for the hiccups I may have gone back to shoveling food!

My stomach would growl after I had my surgery. At that time, I had no interest in eating whatsoever. Now it growls when I am hungry but I try to keep small portions of things on hand so if my stomach does growl I can appease it until my next meal. I also get burps and hiccups that can be mildly uncomfortable to downright painful.

I go in for my first fill on November 30th and while I am looking forward to it, I am not looking forward to the actual needle. I am also not looking forward to the modified diet again.

Yep, my tummy growls alot and does summer salts too. Aphillipi is correct, Gax X strips help me alot. I keep them at my desk at work and in my purse. I've never had the hiccups (since being banded but I have noticed I burp alot. Hail to the Gax X Strips! LOL

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
