Why does weight loss slow?

Recommended Posts

I am one of those people who needs to understand the why behind everything.

I've done everything by the book and I have been up three pounds the last two days. I haven't had over 1200 calories and most days and under that. i am definitely having a calorie deficit. So I know this isn't true weight gain, but what is it? I know your monthly friend can cause it, but that's not for a week. I haven't had a lot of sodium.

I know the weight loss should be slow, but at 1200 calories a day, I am expecting results.

I feel the same way. I am almost 5 months post op and in the beginning my weight loss was fast, now it's slowed down quite a bit. My suggestion is keep doing what you're doing. It will come off. Im in the same boat, I eat around 1200-1300 cal a day and I exercise 3-4 time a week and I lose on average about 5-8 lbs a month. My doctor says that great! So I take his word for it and keep it moving! I know it can be very frustrating, but at least it's coming off. Good luck!

I track everything I put in my mouth. I am two weeks out so I'm not cleared for exercise yet. I can only eat mushies.

if you haven't started..try walking. you don't need a clearance for that. make sure you are drinking at least 64oz of Water daily. i haven't been lately and i can tell the difference.

I know I am not getting my fluids in. I would venture to say i am dehydrated. I am do used to drinking when eating then I forget to drink. I've never heard that would affect weight loss though. Although still not good for me.

Not getting fluids in, will affect weight loss. I am not a Fluid drinker either. It's very difficult for me. So I do understand, my dietician told me to make sure I get my fluids in, it will help with weight loss. You are also allowed to walk. At two weeks I was cleared to do any exercise, but I do know of some that can't do crunches or lift weights. I do as stated before walk 10000 steps, It equals to 5 miles. I exercise 5 days a week an hour per day. I mix cardio with resistance training. Try using My Fitness Pal. You can log your food and your exercise.

I use my fitness pal! I love it!! I talked to my nutritionist and she told me I should be at 1000 calories so I am going to try that. I definitely need more Water. That's my next goal! Oh and in great news, I can add even more foods. I didn't read my binder right. I have two weeks of soft, but solid foods!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
