pre-fill restriction?

Recommended Posts

I get my first fill in less than 2 weeks. I see alot here who seem to have horror stories about being over-filled. So far, I havent really had ANY complaints. very little soreness, raising my arms fixes the burping/pressure problem and my hunger isnt that horrible.

Currently, I do get hungry, but a few sips of Protein Shake or Soup and I am good to go. I can not drink anything too quickly, i generally eat and drink everything one spoonfull at a time. If I get a fill, will i suddenly be unable to get even Protein shakes down? should i be more hungry then i am? almost afraid to go back to a normal food eating stage. afraid one bite of the wrong food and ill be off track before i begin.

Your first fill probably won't have much effect, other than making you a little sore for a day or so.

Some people don't feel any effect. I didn't, but my band was filled and then emptied because I

had a 38 lb weight loss so a fill wasn't necessary. You need to relax a little, this isn't that bad.

A fill will probably give a little restriction for a few days, then you'll be right back where you were.

If your weight loss is enough, a good surgeon may choose not to give you a fill until you either

stop losing or begin to have hunger you can't control.

I was thinking along the same lines Susan. I got a band on the 29th Sept and went for my first fill a week ago. As I had lost 40lbs since starting the pre op diet, the surgein suggested a fill was not needed so I didn't argue the toss. I am back in 4 weeks time to reveiw this but like you the whole thing, touch wood, has been a breeze so far.

I saw my surgeon today for my first fill, but he and I agreed that i am doing well with just the restriction from the band, so no fill today. I am down 23 lbs from start of pre op diet on 9/28. Banded on 10/12. I am following the nutritionist's recommendation to fill up on the Protein and veggies, then have a little bit of carb if I have room. But honestly, I haven't really wanted much in the way of carbs. I made scrambled eggs with fat free mozzarella for Breakfast. I though I'd try a piece of wheat toast. I took one bite and didn't like the way it went down, so I threw it away. I'm happy to have restriction at this point with no fill. So I see the surgeon in 6 weeks, or less if I need to. So I am... Arlene, a happy loser!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
