dacommittee 0 Posted November 10, 2011 Hello Everyone, this is my first post in this forum/website. After years of one thing or another I finally have my surgery date for a gastric sleeve, December 5th is my magic day. I am having the surgery done in Tijuana Mexico with Dr. Almanza, only a 3 hr drive for me. I am so excited but nervous at the same time as I hate hospitals and have never been admitted to one for any type of procedure. I am 28 and have struggled with weight all my life, it never really hit me hard until I climbed over 540 lbs, then everything took a turn for the worst with my health. My sleep apnea got worst, my feet are swollen and hurt everyday, I have diffuculty walking even short distances and standing up for long periods of time, intimacy with my girlfriend is now almost impossible. And even the things I enjoyed doing seem like an endeavor to accomplish, like dancing and playing softball and basketball. Any tips or advice from other members? I have also heard that with a lot of weight loss some people can get shorter, is this true? I am 6'2 and I love being tall, what about shoe size? Does it go down with a lot of weight loss? Bubblebear - Congratulations on making this important decision to improve your health. Your story has touched my heart - I will be praying for you. My brother had a sleeve gastrectomy (I think it might be what you are having done). His was done about a year ago and he has done very well. He's down about 135 pounds so far. I'll be having surgery the same day as you - I'm having a lap band done. Don't worry - just keep focused on all the positives that will come your way!
