consultation was today! Went really well...now just waiting for insurance approval! So excited... :)

I'm going to have the choice between Lap-Band or the Realize band, what are the differences and what did y'all choose?

Anyone heard anything negative, one VS. the other?

There are slim differences between them. I asked a doctor that taught WLS, and he said "flip a coin,

there is no practical difference". The Reliant band has two thicknesses of ports and that is only

important if a person has their fat under the abdominal muscle instead of above. Most people let the

doctor make the decision based on their experience.

Oh, okay. Good to know, thanks!

i'm in the same boat- i have to choose the brand, but i guess my doctor will choose the size. there's a good thread on here that's pretty recent about this topic...maybe it's in the pre-surgery section? anyway, in case you can't find it, one thing mentioned by another poster in that thread is that with the bigger band (14cc vs 10cc), it may take more fills to get to your sweet spot. that was something i hadn't really thought of before...and something to consider if you also have a choice in size. personally, i think i'm going to choose the lapband (10cc if i have a choice). i get banded in a couple of days, so i'll let you know!

update: here's a link to that discussion: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/137463-which-brand-to-choose/

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
