dog walking

Recommended Posts

not sure if this is the best category or if post-op might be bettter, but i'm curious for those of you who have dogs that you walk on a leash, how long after surgery was it before it felt ok? my guy is little (under 15lbs) but he does pull and i'm wondering how long i should wait after surgery to take him out. walking him around would be good for me to get the gas out and he would love the activity, but i'm worried that it might be painful. i've never thought too much about whether the pulling is mostly in my arm or if it's also in my abs. any experiences?

That sounds like a good idea, Go to pet store and get collar and leash that will not let them pull I have two for my two dogs. I you can't find then ask someone to help you.

i used one of the head harnesses for my shepherd, and it just turns them if they pull, a bit like horses reins. so its actually a bit more comfortable then just pulling on their necks. and i have a 20 pound eskie girl and she seemed ok to walk after a few days. use the arm opposite the port since that is the longest to heal and the most sore after.

I am anxious to be able to walk with my dogs again. They are bird dogs and do not go on leads, but no way I can keep up with them or get to them if something happened. Hoping this journey will be soon coming.

The head harness is either a "Gentle Leader" or a "Halti" brand. I use one on my 120lb labrador who loves to take ME for a walk. I found the Gentle Leader or Halti harness works best to reign him back and have him walk along side me in a 'heel' position.

Not to change the subject.....What kind of bird dogs do you have?? I have a German Shorthaired Pointer.

I walked my dogs the day of surgery. I live alone so basically no choice but I was fine with it. My dogs are like 20 lb and 8 lb. I was lifting 20 lb dogs a week after surgery and back at work. I would not think there is a wait on when you could walk a dog especially a 15 lb dog.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
