Life Insurance and the Band

Recommended Posts

I have been applying for life insurance. Wanting to get $250,000, just in case...you know. I am 33 years old and right at 300 lbs. Everywhere I go they turn me down for height/weight ratio. Was even turned down from my EMPLOYERS insurance agency... I thought I had heard it all right...

Well, here is a new one. The most recent denial says that I have been denied because of a possible lap band surgery in the near future. Says that they denied me because I had mentioned it in the phone interview and they found it in my medical charts that I have been considering lap band. Totally messed up hugh????

Don't even believe they can deny me for something I have not even done. But they said that they would reconsider after I have the surgery...if I can ever get approved for that.

Totally messed up. This just sucks...

I agree - that stinks. I have heard that it is much easier to get life insurance 1 year after WLS. I assumed that as soon as my weight was down I could start looking for a policy, but from what I've read I'm going to wait a little while.

HeY Poodles, I am sorry to hear that. It does not make any sense. I would keep trying. I have insurance with work and a policy outside of work. I would try different companies, that is something that you need. I hope GIGNA let you know something soon with your band. Good luck!!

IVAN708 just went thru a bunch of insurance kaka... you might want to ask him what he did. I believe he found a company that would finally give him insurance. He posts on the boards so you can find him in the members directory.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
