Fill - Has this happened to anyone else?

Recommended Posts

I went last Friday for another fill.... I was fine getting liquids down the rest of the day Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday. Once I started with mushy foods, i feel like my band might be to tight... I've stopped mushy foods and went back to liquid to give my band a break but now i'm having issues keeping liquids down aswell. I'm not sure if everything is just tight from getting sick off of my mushy food, or if the band is actually just to tight (since issues didn't start until after i got sick off of the mushy foods, and i know that can cause things to swell.) Has this happened to anyone else? Should i get a slight unfill or just give my band some time to relax and see how things go? I'm getting some liquid in just not nearly as much as i could get in before. (and i'm trying to sip but i'm not sure if maybe i'm drinking to much at once)

I would try and give it one more day and if you are unable to get liquids down without any trouble, you might wanna call ur doctor and get some taken out. I had to do that once and i got dehydrated and was very sick because I waited too long. I wasnt able to drink hardly anything. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I'll give it another day or two. I'm trying to drink some hot tea now.... hopefully that will calm my band down! :o)

Carabanded - I have had the same issues since my last fill in mid Sept. The good news I am in the green zone and losing weight. My band fills up so quickly now. Sometimes I can't drink my coffee so I switch to tea. I also find liquids sometimes harder. Especially Protein shaked in the morning. You just have to keep trying. I find that I can take small bites of my Protein Bar that is called Oh Yeah. sometimes it takes me all morning to eat my bar. I take a bite or 2 then sip Water or crystal light. Then in a hour or 2 I take another bite. I have also had to go back to pureeing my food. Good news I can't eat more than 1/2 - 1 C of food at a time. It is a slow process but I manage to get 1000+ cals in a day. I also can't drink after eating sometimes for hours as I am so full. When you are this tight getting sick and recovering takes longer. Good luck & keep us posted!

I ended up calling the Dr and getting .5 cc's taken out (they had put 1.5 cc's in on Friday) I can now keep liquid down!! My Dr ended up cancelling my appointment but since I couldn't keep anything down - and I could feel myself getting dehydrated.... they got me in with another Dr. He said he thinks that since I got sick off of my 1st mushy food that I tried, it just caused everything to be inflamed..... (i.e. - my band is a drama queen! lol)

If you can't get liquids down, even if you JUST had a fill, you're too tight. I'm glad you got an unfill!

I know :o) I had been able to get liquids down up until I could move on to mushy foods... Those mushy foods just messed me all up! I'm beginning to think my stomach/body is just overly sensitive and over reacts when i get fills. Thanks for your help everyone! I'm feeling much better today for sure!!

The exact same thing happened to me. Now my doctor is super careful on any fills he gives me. My max fill right now is .2, which thankfully since it happened I haven't had any issues keeping liquids or solids down :)

Here is a pretty good rule that I follow, and if it don't work ! then I know I'm to tight.

Anytime you get a adjustment at all !

Liquids for 3 days, mushies for 1 day, then try food.

Usually by that time,,,swelling is down. If you sneak, or cheat, and throw up or gag. Then because you are swollen, you ave to start all over again with the 3 day fast.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
