Liquids To Soft Food

Recommended Posts

From what I have read here, there are mixed opinions from both users here and their doctors as to when you can start eating soft foods. Could you guys (and gals) tell me when you switched and how your band and body responded? I had surgery Nov. 2 which was 5 days ago. I can drink liquids pertty fast and they go down very well. I haven't had any issues with liquids hurting me and I have cheated once or twice with a bite of ricotta cheese but I chewed the heck out of it which is what I will do when I start with soft foods too.

So... What do you think? When should I start? I am just asking because its torture not being able to eat anything even semi-solid. I would be most appreciative of your opinions and experiences no matter good or bad. THanks in advance :)

I think most people are going to tell you to follow your post op diet. I understand COMPLETELY how much it sucks. I am not really eating a lot, the band is working, but I want solids!!! I was banded just a few days before you. It's important to let your body heal. You may feel good, I do, but you have no idea about your insides. There are stitches and stuff you don't want to mess up. Do I think the ricotta is going to kill you? No, and neither is the one TINY bite of my husbands pizza I had and chewed the crap out of last night. But I want everything to heal and my body to be ready to lose weight. Even though you can drink fast, just be careful. Give it time to go through the band into the rest of your stomach.

mine is supposed to be 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks mushy, 2 weeks solid etc.i start mushies tuesday. yay. i do ok with liquids as long as i dont gulp them down.but also varying things with some creamy soups(ones with mostly cream and not solid stuff in it, i strain that), broth and Protein Shakes. when i want more, i weigh myself and its a pretty good checkstop since i like it going down direction.

I'm 10 days postop. I was supposed to be moved from liquids to mushies 7 days after surgery, but my one week check up was postponed until Tuesday. I have been cheating a bit with some soft foods like smooth yogurt in lieu of one of my Protein Shakes.< /p>

I had 10 days full liquids, but when i saw my doctor after 8 days, she gave me the go ahead to move to mushies. But i was healing very well, did not have a hernia or any other complications. It was then mushies for 10 days. I am now on soft foods.

I feel your pain on this .... I have to keep telling myself one more week and I'll be on soft foods. I'm 7 days post op and its about to kill me. Think of the weight loss as your motivation..... And remember, come Thanksgiving you'll be eating turkey!

I was on liquid for 3 weeks until I was allowed to move to mushies.... and if you count the 2 week pre op... that is a total of 5 weeks. I didnt cheat once. It was the hardest thing I had ever done. And I started my pre op liquid the day before Thanksgiving!!!! But I wanted NO complications.... so I followed the Dr's orders...I had mashed potatos on New Years day and 11 months later I am a success story!

My advice...follow your Dr's orders and do not cheat.Best of luck

thanks alot for all of the replies. I appreciate everyones opinions and advice. I have to admit... I broke down this morning and ate a few bites of applesauce.... Went down wonderfully. This evening, I mashed up some scalloped potatoes pretty good and chewed them up beyond recognition and they went down just fine as well. I was extremely nervous when I tried but everything was fine with no problems what-so-ever. I definitely appreciate everyones experiences though. It was all very informative and I am still open to hear other peoples timeframes as well.

From what I gather, I think it most depends on how well/how fast you heal and your swelling goes down.

It is supposed to be "Follow you surgeon's orders"! My surgeon is quite conservative. He recommends 2 weeks clear, 2 weeks full liquids and then soft. He says cottage chesse is not considered liquids. My son started his journey in August, he lifts 70 lbs at a time at work. So, he needs to keep up his strength. He has been very successful, and has lost 65 lbs since his surgery. You too can do it, but you need to be motivated! He took his $1000.00 suit to be altered. The seamstress said, sorry, can't do, it is too much, we would have to totally remake your suit. He was sort of heart broken, but he has dropped from a size 56 to a size 44 and is still loosing. Good luck to you!! Keep trudging along. Karen

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
