Advice or Suggestion .. please

When I first made the decision the only people who knew were my kids, husband, parents, inlaws, and two of my closest friends. Since I work in a hospital laboratory, and had my surgery at the same hospital, we get a surgery schedule the day of. Needless to say word got out throughout my department.

I have a similar issue- I work on an OB unit, and I post the surgery schedule for the following day because we often get gynecology surgical patients on our floor. As a result, everyone is able to see the entire hospital's surgery schedule for the following day. I have told a number of coworkers about it already, partially due to that reason. Also, I have two coworkers that have had gastric bypass, and have enjoyed "learning" from their experiences. I also have a couple overweight coworkers that are interested in my experience, and may consider lap-band themselves sometime in the future. It has been a very pleasant experience for me so far. My mom knows as well, as do a couple of my closest friends. I think I will share with more people after surgery, particularly the family members that I haven't shared with, and other friends on Facebook maybe. We'll have to see. So far I haven't had any negative responses, but I'm sure someone will change that LOL

I am not hiding it and talk to anyone who wants to talk about it. When I put my posts on FB I tell people that if they do not have anything positive to share do not comment on my posts. At one time I had someone attack me (about a different subject) and I told everyone that if they didn't like what I post to skip over it and do not comment on it. If they really don't like what I post they can leave the party. That person left lickety split and I haven't had anymore problems. You have to let your FB friends and family know that you only want encouragement and nothing negative.

You have the right to unfriend anyone who has a negative attitude toward you or your choices. Good Luck!

My advise is....DON'T TELL ANYONE except your family and super close (non-judgemental) friend (s). Seriously, it's none of any body's business and people who don't have food issues simply can't understand why a heavy person can't lose weight. It's so easy to say...just eat less and exercise more! If it were that easy there wouldn't be any fat people around. Trust me, people will judge you for not losing quick enough, loosing too fast, hitting a plateau, seeing you eat something they don't think is a good choice, making comments about the weird food you do eat....the list goes on! Keep it to yourself!

I only told my family and my best friend (who lives in another town) and I am SO glad. I hit a 2 month plateau and I haven't lost a lot anyway but I'm so glad I don't have people saying..."well she sure wasted alot of money to only lose 30 lbs. or she could have done that without having surgery!" Only I know how much the band has helped me get control over the amount of food I eat. I still struggle with wanting everything under the sun but in reality I can only eat a small amount at one time.

Exactly why I am not telling everyone!!!

I had a skinny friend tell me once "just eat less and exercise more". Then years went by and she was struggling to quit smoking and in conversation I told her "just stop smoking". I think she finally understood !

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
