If you are only on your second adjustment you might be still getting use the size of bites you can take and how much you have to chew. I know that after the first three fills I had I was learning a little more each time ... when I got my fourth fill I had to learn a lot and learn fast. It has taken me some time but I think I'm finally figuring it out which prevents things from getting stuck.

As the band got tigther I also noticed that I needed to leave more time before and after eating from my last drink. The first few fills I could drink and then eat a few minutes later which is not good ... now I have to wait at least 45 minutes from the time I take a drink until I eat or I get sick.

Sometimes the mental struggle is worst than the physical one!

after a fill you are supposed to go back to square 1 for a couple of days and progress to eating solid food again. I don't eat meat at all-- i drink Visalus shakes in the morning and for lunch and usually have chili, chowder or Soup for dinner. I do not eat bread Pasta, or anything that i think could get stuck. I am an OR nurse and we had a patient who tried to eat a sandwich1 month after surgery.... she ended up having to have the clog removed sugically. its not worth the problems... i love my shakes and they are so easy to make different each day and they are nutritionally perfect. I have lost 100 lbs. and work out with a trainer 4 times a week... never been happier.

Good luck

My doctor tells me that fills can take up to two weeks to take affect, and I always do full liquids for 24-48 hours and mushies for 24-48 hours after a fill until the swelling goes down. I'm not sure if every doctor recommends it but it always helps me. Make sure you take small bites and chew everything to death. If literally everything gets stuck, not just trouble foods like bread and steak, I would give your doctor's office a call and ask their advice.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
