I'm reading and reading and so far not seeing anything about the "coffee experience", post surgery. What is allowed?

Most surgeons won't get too excited about one 6 oz cup of coffee. The problem with coffee is that

it's a diuretic and causes Water loss and they want you to be as hydrated as possible.

coffee is one of the things I am allowed on my clear liquid diet. Non dairy Creamer, you can use powdered, or the coffee mate flavored yumminess in the milk section of the grocery store. My favorite is the amarretto. Just check the ingredients and make sure there is no milk or cream. I know they are full of sugar (er..corn syrup) and hydrogenated oils, but one or two tablespoons a day won't hurt you, and it feels like you actually get something yummy. I also bought some gingerbread flavored and starbucks coffee beans! YUM! Also, I keep reading about how coffee is really good for you, prevents cancer, etc.. One or two cups won't dehydrate you. It seems to actually help with my swelling a little, and gives me energy. Go for it! You'll feel like you got some dessert! LOL!

i allow myself one cup every morning during the week (no cream - but one of those semi-flavored ones - no added sugar) and then 3-4 cups on weekend mornings - been doing this since surgery 4 months ago - with no problems and steady weight loss.

I stayed away from coffee for two months after surgery in case the caffeine irritated my stomach...I also didn't want to get dehydrated since it was still hard to drink a lot of liquids. Now almost 8 months later I have 1-2 cups a day with no problems. I just make sure to watch the creamer I put in...those calories add up quick! I only use a tablespoon of fat free french vanilla, so each cup is about 30 calories. I also make sure to make up for it in my Water intake. My PA's eyes kind of widen when I tell her that I drink coffee, but it hasn't affected my weight loss at all so I don't know what the big deal is.

Hot apple cider is great too. I like the powdered kind with some added cinnamon and cloves. It's especially good this time of year!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
