Recommended Posts

Does anybody know someone or maybe it happend to you, where you tried to return to solid food too soon? If so, what was the outcome?

what's too soon and why would someone want to go against their doctor's orders? its not easy, but definitely not worth it to go off the plan.

Yeah, I have. I was banded two days before thanksgiving, well I started eating solid food Friday after thanksgiving, I am a sucker for ham. I usually do one day liquids then go to regular food for fills. But I am young so I heal faster. I offically lost 70 lbs as of today.

My surgeon told me that one of the quickest ways to sabotage a band was to eat solid food too soon. It makes me think of all the

people who have the band and complain that they can't lose

weight on three Big Macs and a dozen donuts a day.

Why do you need to go off the diet your doctor gave you. Its for a reason. Hunger never killed anyone. No I didnt go off my diet and wont until I get where I need to be and then I still wont.

That is just not realistic, you will eventually cheat and who wants to live a life were you constantly deny, deny, deny yourself any sense on indulgence (and I am not talking about just food). The point of the band is moderation. And yes people do die of hunger over a million people every day, that was a stupid comment. Everyone's experience is different and that means figuring out what will work for you. If you are hungery, go eat something, chew chew chew and really enjoy it.

The thing about the lap band that disgust me is seeing that some people eat on daily basis less than 1000 calories. That is considered starvation mode to your body and that is not healthy but seems to be generally promoted on this forum.

People don't die from hunger. They die from starvation. Big difference.

Medically there is no difference, if you want to get techinical they die from a lack of essential amino acids and carbohydrates not starvation, demonstrating the limiting factor of all non- aquatic autotrophs .

how do you know if he has even healed properly and if he does eat something solid before he should, are you going to pay the bill to have things fixed? theres a difference in indulging sometimes and not being able to control yourself for a week or two. something most couldnt do since we are in these situations, myself included. maybe his doctor should decide whats best for the patient and not a know-it-all who seems a bit irate at everyone.

I simply stated that everyone's journey is different and I even stated that I healed quickly, not stating that he would too. No one is ever going to be perfect and it not realistic to tell someone they should be perfect. The process is about figuring out what will and will not work out for you. I am just stating a fact with the whole starvation mode and I was even being generous with the caloric intake its usually 1200. I look at lap band as getting back to eating healthy not taking it to the extreme other end.

For people who seem so interested in research when confronted with facts they get defensive.

Yup, im 9 days post op. well im still following my doc s orders but I did have a bite of my sons pizza. I was scared but I have zero restriction and I chewed it probably about 40 times lol. I won't have another bite but I'm fine. I still have one week left of mushies and I'm clear.to start working in solids.

The thing is if you start out cheating you could really hurt yourself or risk your band I was self pay and I followed my Dr. completely. Movin up before time to different stages could hurt you or your Band. Come on we all have a least a little bit of willpower, We are suppose to support people not encourage them to cheat

I don't think anyone is encouraging him to cheat. He asked a question and people are answering him.

Truthfully, I started eating solids in my mushy stage.

Hi, my name is Raquel and I'm not perfect! I love how so many people on this website are perfect though, lol.

I asked my doctor if I could move up to full liquids from Clear Liquids two days early and he said "absolutely not". To me that says under no circumstances move forward in the diet program ahead of schedule. Am I perfect absolutely not. Did I follow those post op orders to the T? YES. You can do permanent damage to your body by eating solids to soon.

We're not talking long term here, just the healing phase. It is dangerous to cheat during this stage, you risk the ling term health of your band by doing so. During this time your stomach needs to be kept as still as possible, so that scar tissue can develop tp hold your band in place. If you eat solid food you disrupt this process. If you're hungry during the liquid phase, all you can do is have more liquids! In my humble opinion if you cheat during this stage and think youve gotten away with it, then dont come crying to this forum when your band slips in two years time. And dont blamevyour surgeon either.

Aftervhealing, i tend to lean towards the moderate, a little bit of everything in sensible amounts kind of lifestyle. Id rathervlose weight by cutting off a leg than by the sorts of diets some people live on here, but you yourself pointedvout that we're all different and must each findvwhat works for us.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
