Been banded 6 days. Everything's been great except I don't seem to know my body anymore. I've been burping and there seems to be liquid I COULD burp up but i'm keeping it down. I feel like i'm more swollen than I was, and I think it's making my band feel tighter and making it so I can't get as much down. Could only eat about 1/2 cup of broth, sipping coconut Water and water now and it's staying down. Nothing has come up but I feel WEIRD. I have a growly stomach and I want food, but the thought of eating solid food right now makes me sick. Sick of Clear Liquids but scared to try anything creamy in a couple days when it's allowed. I think my swollen tummy is also making it harder to breathe. Sitting upright hurts, but laying back doesn't feel good either. Standing feels best. Went to two different stores and walked my dog today, afterwards I felt so tired and my stomach felt as if it had been stretched too far. Gas pains in my chest/under breast area that I didn't have before. Had the hiccups the other day, and they did NOT feel good either.

Someone help! I'm probably being overdramatic but I'm sick of this already.

Your body is just recovering from the trauma of surgery. I remember being terrified to burp because I thought it would mess up the band, but I feel like I needed to burp all the time (you won't mess up the band if you burp, I was just a paranoid idiot). The gas pains and hiccups are totally normal too. I know it sucks but it will pass and then you'll be feeling great!

Mine did that after surgery too. Then about the third week the swelling went down, I gained a pound and the hunger really came back. I ate a lot of creamy Soups during that time with some added no flavor Protein Powder and it was the best thing I ever ate. Now, when I go get a fill it is pretty snug for a couple of days and I have to revert back to the same thing. The gugling only last for me for about 3 weeks too but I will get it from time to time after a fill. You're on your way sunshine and it's all normal. If it's too tight and you can't get Water down, then call your doctor. I also drink Muscle milk too. It helps with the hunger if you are too tight to eat anything. I just had a fill Tuesday and it's pretty snug. I tried eating a bite of something yesterday and it irritated it and I was a little swollen last night. I was sliming and had to sip my water and muscle milk slowely. This morning it is still tight but it feels better.

This to shall pass. I had all the same feelings up to about a day ago and I am 9 days out of surgery. Everyday you should see things get a little better.

I'm glad I found this post. I just had my surgery Tuesday and don't really know WHAT I can have. I am on the liquid diet but terrified I will sip too much. Already tired of what I am sipping when I am fixing my family their meals. I am gassy, which is painful, hurts to yawn, cough and laugh and a little difficult getting up and down, but other then that I'm okay. My stomach is gurgley but can't tell if it's me being hungry or if that is just gas too. I go to my first post op appt on the 16th. Any input is great. I'm learning so much from this site.

Hang in there! I still have most of those feelings I described when I posted this, but not nearly as bad. Went out to dinner (for some delicious Soup broth! MMMM!) last night, then walked around Target for about an hour and a half, and felt like I could go somewhere and do some more shopping! A few days ago, that little bit of activity would have tired me out. Today I get to try some drinkable yogurt. Last night I cheated a tiny bit (since today I can have milk anyway) and had a few bites of a cream based Soup (watered down with broth) but the milk stayed down really well. I am a tiny bit lactose intolerant, so i'm going to start with soy yogurt today.

One really weird thing, although I'm not really in pain anymore, just sore like I did a bunch of sit-ups, and still a little gassy... I think I can feel either my port or the tubing move. If I bend over to far to the left to pick something up or whatever, I can feel it. It feels like it's sort of bumping against my ribs. My doc said it's normal and I might feel it until the scar tissue builds up, but it's very unpleasant, and just WEIRD.

WEIRD totally sums up how I felt the first 2 weeks. I was terrifed that I would never feel normal again. I kept asking everyone, "will my insides feel normal again?"... and figuring out your body all over again is soo weird.. it feels totally different when your hungry and totally different when your full.. and then you have these gas pains in the mix as well... Just know that you are just healing... let yourself get used to all the changes.. you WILL feel normal again :-)

Im so glad I found this thread!!!! I am feeling exactly the same way. I have a tendency to worry and think the worst, so of course I have been thinking something is wrong. This thread has given me alot of reassurance knowing that Im not the only one. I have my one week follow up on Friday and Im sure that my Dr. will tell me not to worry so much! Thanks again feliciadawn for putting your issues in writing. I hope you are feeling better.

Corinna

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
