Just getting started

Recommended Posts

I am now in the progress of just getting starting. I go next week to do my lab work and other tests. I have UHC and they said that it covers 100%. Though after I get my tests done, I have to go through insurance clearance. Do I still have a good chance at getting this ? Does it take a long time before you get an answer from them ??

They should cover it. But I guess it depends what plan you have. I have the hmo plan. I called myself to see how much they covered. You might want to call and verify with them. Good luck !! I don't know I'm still debating if I still want to get it. I just fear in what if something goes wrong and I won't have my insurance anymore, then how will I pay to have it removed. That is my worst fear......

Congratulations on the UHC paying 100% of your surgery. I too have UHC and a nurse at a hospital and mine wont pay for anything at all. I AM so jealous. But none the less happy for you all. Good luck with the entire process! Keep us posted!

I probably will call. I have HMO also and was told they cover 90/10; that max I will have to pay is $2000 out of pocket but they were still in talks with them.

That's awesome !! Good luck to you on your process. I went today to get my lab work done. I feel like I'm really starting to get the ball rolling. Once you start to get your tests completed you feel like you are really now in the process. I guess the quicker you get that done. The quicker paper work can be submitted to the insurance. I'll keep yaw posted.

I have my appointment with the Surgeons Assistant and I was told I will have a psych evaluation. I'm super excited and anxious. Can anyone tell me what to expect at the seminar and evaluation?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
