GMA has a story about a woman losing 131 pounds from the sleeve - now i know this is the lap band forum but all of the rules still apply and it takes just as much work - i provided the link below for you to read the article....and if you have time read some of the comments....after reading some of them i am very happy with my decision to keep my surgery quiet and away from judgement :)

I'm not quite sure of the object of this post.

There are people on this site that have lost over 200 lbs on the band and still have their stomachs.

A woman at work asked me if I saw this today (I did not). She wondered why I didn't have the sleeve instead since the woman lost such a large amount in such a short time. (I guess I'm not losing quickly enough after only 6 weeks.) I told her I liked the idea of slow and steady. I'm really beginning to regret telling my coworkers, but kinda had to since I work at the hospital where I had it done. Either way, I know I made the right decision for me to have Lap-Band.

I didn't tell anyone other than my hubby and 1 co-worker. I saw it happen to a friend who had GBS people just said mean things behind her back and I certainly didn't want to be the object of conversation. My weight loss is slow but steady so people think I am dieting and I like it that way. It is a little difficult sometimes because I eat so little when dining out with others. I am happy that I didn't tell everyone-I might tell some others down the road (like my mother). Plus no one ever told me that it would be a slow process. I focused on people who had lapband and lost weight quickly-who knew that 3 months after surgery my weight loss would be so modest? But after the right fill things started happening. I just hope it continues that way!

I think your weightloss is great. I think the less one has to lose the slower the process and the closer you get to goal the harder it gets. But hey I am down 50 lbs in 6 months, I would never have done that on my own.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
