I'm on day three post op with the band and can't get used to the gas... I wish I could burp or something but I can't and it hurts. Does this gas ever go away or is this just going to part of my life for now on with the band?

The best thing you can do is walk walk walk, some folks say windmilling your arms helps (you probably

should do that in the privacy of your home). It will go away in a few days.

you have to walk

it takes about 2 weeks for all the gas to go away especially in the shoulder

don't worry everything will be fine

Most of the gas I feel is in the abdomen area! It works its way up to my chest and is very discomforting

It will pass. Definitely move around as much as you can (but don't overdo it, you're still recovering). People say Gas-X strips helped them but they did nothing for me. You may not be able to yet, but I found lying on my left side kind of helped push the gas out. Feel better!

Gas-x chewables, massage and a lot of walking. At one point it was so bad it brought me to tears and I thought....what the hell have I done. But don't worry as the other gals have said....it will go away :) Hang in there.

I'm 4 days post op and the gas pains have been the worst pains of my life. At this point I'm also wondering what I've gotten myself into. This is horrible.

I'm also on post-op day 3 and have the gas pains also. I';ve been using the chewable Gas-x and trying to walk around. Both of them have helped me. I just wish it would go away quickly!!

I think the worst thing is I can't get a productive burp! I wish I could let loose on a big beer burp!

Gas X doesn't help. This gas is not in your belly, it's in your abdominal cavity and will dissipate over a week or two. I had it really bad for about 13 days. Then it just stopped , like my surgeon had reassured me. Walking and a heating pad are good. I also took my pain med, usually towards later in the day when it really got to me. Hang tough. It will be history soon.

I know exactly what you mean! It feels like you have to burp, it comes up part way but nothing comes out and its uncomforable. Im 5 days post op and am having that exact same thing. Its definitely not from the carbon dioxide they use during the surgery, this is a stomach type of gassy feeling. I just try to burp when I can...Im sure it will pass as time goes on, but it sure is uncomfortable!! Hope it goes away soon.

I walked as much as possible, and I used a heating pad when I wasn't walking. I took my pain meds at night and slept in a recliner for the first four days, and then I had no gas pains at all after that. It was tough, but I think I would have had a harder time of it without all that walking. It really helped. Also, drink Water, it keeps your system flushed out and happy.

2days post op and mild relief is achieved with heating pad and bay leaf tea. It seems to work well

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
