Pleatman's Conversion Surgery

I had my jaw wired shut for 12 weeks one time. Seriously. Well, they basically put braces on your back molars and wire your mouth shut. The grossest part is not being able to brush your teeth but you can get pretty good with a waterpik. Talking is a bit tough--but you can double as a ventriloquist.

Ummmmmmm, I would sooooooo cheat that! Blended Twinkies through the straw would still work for me! :speechles

Well, there are a lot of things that just don't blend that well--and twinkies would be one of them. Of course you can still drink milkshakes and I did create something like cheese sauce. I think the staple of my diet when I did that was tuna fish blended in white sauce. One time when I pb'd after eating tuna it SO reminded me of that concoction when I PB'd it up.

BUt all 'n all when you're walking around with your mouth wired shut you feel like such a stupid idiot that you "cheat" less than one would think.

Gastric Sleeve would be my choice if my band would have to be removed. I have done research on this for the last month.

I believe the Phobi ring was put on Randy Jackson?(American Idol judge) along with the Rny.

Randy Jackson looks no different to me today than before he had whatever he had done. Whatever it is, it isn't working for him.

I saw Randy Jackson on Oprah over a year ago with Dr. Ren who decribed the procedure.

Any who, Randy did said he puke alot, be out and eat fast food then have to stop the car to puke. He still hasn't learn what to avoid.

He has lost some weight but not drastic, that's for sure.

Kare, Believe it or not, I too have had my jaws wired shut! Was due to some surgery on my jaws & was wired shut for 9 weeks. I used to get gravy from KFC & mix it with milk & drink it. Got sooooo tired of juices & shakes & sweet stuff. Once at work I grabbed some ketchup & mustard packets from my co-worker's bag from a burger place & just sucked the stuff out of the packets. And I answered phone calls from customers on my job. I was able to talk after about 2 weeks of practice. Oh, what memories. I used to drink a lot back then & went to bars & drank beer with a straw.

i have had rny with a silastic ring, which is similar to a fobi pouch. the silastic ring is a plastic non-adjustable ring that goes around the stoma between the pouch and the intestine. it keeps foos in the pouch longer and also keeps the opening from increasing over time. it is supposed to work well, and it has so far. 150 lbs gone in 6.5 months.

I don't know how to post pics but here is a link to a before of Randy. He was 329 pounds. He lost 100 pounds, 12 inches in his waist and 5 shirt sizes.

I think that is a BIG difference. His struggles are the same as ours. Whatever it is, is working just fine.

Yes, I don't even watch "Idol" (I know, I know and they actually let me keep my citizenship) and even I can see Randy is a lot smaller... Big difference between being in his 300's and the 200's. So I can't think of him as an RnY failure, sorry.

Happy Band Journeys to all...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
