I have been trying to lose weight for years. I don't do diets but working out, eating healthy and taking Alli. I was 200 lbs in elementary school and in my 30's now and 300lbs. Something has to change! My old doctor recommended Weight Watchers. So several years later I now have a new and more modern doctor. Wednesday I am going to ask her to forward me to a specialist. I hope she does it. If not then off to another doctor. I watched both of my parents die of a heart attack because they were overweight. I can't let that happen to me.

i didn't go through my primary care doctor, i called my local hospital and signed up for a seminar on weight loss surgery. that was august 10th and now i am 29 days away from surgery. depending on your insurance, you may not need anything from the primary. i have federal blue cross blue shield and they wanted a letter of support and i then went to my primary and she was on board, but my friend was banded last year and she spoke to her gyno about weight loss and he gave her the letter of support. so wait to see if you insurance requires it, all insurances are different. some want a six month doctor supervised diet, after the seminar, you will meet with the surgeon and they will know what your insurance requires. good luck in this journey, congratuations on making this decision. it is never too late, i am 41 and at the seminar there were people in their 60's and 70's. keep in touch.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
