I have a question how many hours a week do you work out in the gym. I will be joining Planet fitness this week and was wondering how many hours a week should I do.

Why not start with 6 hrs a week (two hours a day, three times a week) to start and work up from there?

If you start too strong it gets boring quickly and is hard to stay with it.

I would start off slow and gradually increase your duration/intensity. Even just 20 minutes of cardio 4 or so days a week is enough to get started. That's what I did, started with a slow walk for 20 min. on the treadmill. Now I jog for 30 or walk on an incline for 45. If you want to do weights right away that would be great. I highly reccomend a personal trainer if you can afford it. It not only keeps you accountable but a trainer will make sure your doing the right form and knows when to bump up the weight. I love mine. Good luck and keep us posted on how the workouts go.

I always figure (for me) just making it to the gym is a miracle but if I make inside the gym I am working out. So I judge by how I feel. Usually 20-30 minutes to start 2-3 days a week. As you start going more often you will see that you will be able to do more and will want to do more. Once you find things you like you will form your type of schedule. For example Eliptical on Mondays, Tuesday Spin Class and weights etc., By the 2-3 month I was going 5 days a week ad working out for about 1 1/2 each day. I have to get back into the gym. Last year lost 40 lbs and now I am up 50 lbs...so I am embarassed to go back BUT I plan on it!!! Now when I get the Lapband I am hoping that I will maintain all that hard work. :)

GOOD LUCK!!!

Im still a slow starter with the gym....I just dont like it too much! but I do set my car on autopilot to curves 3 days a week no matter what. I love curves in 30 minutes I hit my target burn major calories and tone. Since I started I have lost 18 inches.

One observation I have found is that going to the gym becomes addictive.

When I miss a day, I feal guilty as heck.

I can now understand, while traveling for business and staying in hotels, people will still get out and jog.

Today I am getting off work at noon because I have to drive down to DC, stay in a hotel, and attend a conference at 8am tomorrow. I am still wondering if I can squeeze time in this afternoon to get to the gym.

I do 60 minutes in the Gym, then 45 minutes in a Warm Pool.

Once changed,,,, I get a Hot Oil Massage..

Then I am good for the Day.

That is 3 x a week.

Getting started is the hardest part. You will have to make yourself go at first. But before you know it, you will be hating to miss a day. Just push yourself a little more each day. Set goals that are agressive but achievable. Dont think that you will be running 2 miles in a week, but certainly set some kind of goal for yourself to keep you going. When I get on the ellyptical for example I always set a time and a level when I start instead of just hitting the Quick Start button. That makes me stay on it instead of just getting off when I start to get a little bored. Also mix it up! Try some different machines- treadmill, ellyptical, aerobics class, or even bike riding outside, whatever you enjoy doing. Mixing it up giving you a little variety will keep you interested in exercize as well as keep your metabolism rolling. Mixing it up keeps your metabolism on a high! I dont know about the rest of you, but my weight loss sure does go a lot faster with the exercize combined with the healthy eating, not to mention how awesome it feels when I have finished a good workout.

Good luck. Stick with it!!

2 Hours a day if you've never exercised before is a bit much. Why not get into the gym and have someone familiarize you with the machines and the free weights. If you know where things are and what they're used for, it will make your time there more productive.

I'm a big supporter of personal trainers, but not everyone can do that.

My surgeon says 30 minutes a day of exercise. Why not start with that and build up from there.

I am not banded yet, hopefully in December. But when I diet and exercise without the band I could lose 2-3 lbs a week on my own. Of course that's 1 hr- 1 1/2 hrs at 5 days a week, without the band. Dieting is the hardest part of it for me. I am hoping with the band and with the same workout effort I could lose 3-4lbs a week. Is that possible?

I honestly don't go to the gym at all. I work out on my own. I like it better. Occasionally, I'll go take some classes. Before I moved, my friend was going jogging with me in the mornings, but usually it's just me working at my own pace. I had a bad experience at a gym with a man who wouldn't leave me alone while I was working out and was always watching me and kind of coming on to me... so I haven't wanted to go back; but I might later. I know quite well that this sort of thing doesn't happen at every gym, and that it was unusual; but still makes me feel weird.

Thank you good luck to you too.. I know the feeling about 10 years ago I lost 110 lbs but then gained it all plus 30 back now I have the lap band and hope I can lose weight and keep it off.

I've been going to the gym for many years before banding. I started with maybe 20-30 minutes a couple times a week. Now I do Kickboxing usually 5 times a week, an hour each time. And I do the elliptical for an hour 1 times per week. One time I week I do train to failure (push my muscles to failure with weights) So I workout like 6 hours per week. Though recently I've done more like 7 hours. Do longer kickboxing twice a week. I feel so lazy if I take off a day, besides my usual rest day.

For me, I dont go to the gym regularly - but how long you work out depends on intensity. If you're walking on a treadmill and doing a machine weights program, you're going to need an hour and a half to two hours maybe three or four times a week. If you do interval training and heavy free weights, 45 mintues all up would be plenty.

I'm a runner, for me the magic number was always an hour (at first about 7kms, now its about 10) and it always seemed that five times a week was vastly more effective than four - usually I try for six. It takes me about that to be able to eat anything I want and maintain.

when I go to the gym I usually do a spin class which is an hour long.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
