I was banded on the 12th. It will be three weeks tomorrow! I still have periods of time where I feel exhausted. I'm still on mushies/soft foods but getting my Protein in. I had arthroscopic knee surgery 4 weeks before my lap band. I'm thinking that I was just hit with a double whammy and thats why I am so tired. I started sub lingual B12 several days ago. Any thoughts? I work part time as a nurse with a busy pediatrician in a busy office. Yesterday was my first day out on the floor with patents. Maybe that's what did me in. I just want my vitality back. It's a little frustrating.

You know that when you eat much less your energy level drops for a while. The Vitamin B12 is

a big help for me. This is the time of year when we have to cut and split wood and I had a rough

time for a while, but now I'm back in the swing of things. Most of us have a 3-4 week period of

malaise, when we don't even want to get off the couch. Just give it some time. Good luck.

I have never had fatigue but since surgery, it has been bad. I kept trying everything I could to find out what was causing it. My endo changed my thyroid meds and I kept swearing that this had something to do with it but he kept saying no. I would be so tired that I would go walking for an hour and have to take a nap, do some laundry, another nap and I just felt run down all the time. I kept compalining to my husband that I couldn't live this way. Right after surgery he kept saying for me just to take it easy and let my body rest. I tried but I wanted results. So, for the past 7 months, I have just dealt with it. The other day, I was fed up and started back tracking what I had been doing since surgery and discovered that one thing I had added to my diet since surgery was Crystal Light. I was reading the box and saw that it has Aspartame in it. I knew my son was allergic to it. I stopped taking it and for the past 4 days, I have not been tired.

try different shakes, some are more like Fruit drinks, the Isopure i think. and there is also flavorless Protein you can add to drinks or broth.

not sure about the energy, trying to do errands and some stuff, but dreading that first week back to work since i wont have worked in 2 weeks. think i am going to look for those B12 strips before i start back though.

I don't know what brand Protein Shake you used? they are definitely different. I would recommend you go to a Vitamin store/Whole Foods Grocery where the employees are educated about the products they sell. try to get stevia as the sugar substitute. all of the ingredients involved make a difference with taste and nutritional values. I was taught that whey Protein is the best for our body, get one with low carbs, high protein, low sodium etc. I know it must sound like a lot of work to find this product but aren't you worth it ? ? ? I use Jay Robb - like chocolate best; total 32 grams protein with soy milk. I know I have seen many people post many shakes that they love. this will definitely give you lots of protein and good weight loss.

Thanks for all the replies. I had my first visit to the dietician and NP today. The NP told me the fatigue is very normal so I felt a little better. And the dietician advanced me to solids!! Yay! She was so helpful in giving me guidelines. I had brought her print outs from the "my fitness pal" app where I've been tracking my food. It was helpful for her to review it and give me suggestions. She also felt that the B12 strips do nothing for energy. My B12 level pre op was normal and what the body doesn't need, it excretes in urine. So, I'm on my way!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
