A liquid diet. nothing but liquids. This is what was advise to me:

*Water or flavored water(no more than 10 calories per serving)

*Pulp free juices(apple, grape,cranberry-100%real juice). juice should only be consumed if you feel weak or shaky, but only limit to half cup

*Coffee and tea

*Broth

*Sugar free Jell-O and sugar free popsicles

And remember that you are doing this for your own health. It will be a rugged few days but definitely worth it. This is one time to keep the long term goal in sight!

PS As hard as it may be to accept, it would be better for your surgery to be cancelled (I am hoping you mean delayed?) before you go into hospital than for him to start surgery and then stop because you're liver hasn't shrunk and it is not safe for him to continue.

Did you have a preop diet to follow? Have you followed it?

I know the pre op diet is hard, but they give it to you for a reason. You have to stick to it. It's horrible I know. But it will help you long term.

I lost 11 pounds in 7 days...I thought for sure my surgery was gonna be cancelled cause I wasnt gonna lose enough weight in time. I drank 4-5 bottles of Water a day and 2 Protein Shakes. I also had one very low calorie meal. You CAN do this. I know its hard and it sucks but just give it all you got!

It is hopeless, you have not committed to making the changes necessary to be successful with the band.

Reschedule your surgery, get counselling and try again to get involved in the PROCESS which is a journey!!!

Best wishes, Mimi

It would probably be better for you to reschedule the surgery for a few weeks from now. Start the preop diet again and stick to it. The preop diet is tough, but my doctor said they didn't design the program to be mean. They designs the programs to keep you safe.

If your liver isn't small enough, he may not be able to perform the surgery. If that happens, you will have been subjected to all of the risks of surgery (general anesthesia, blood clots, pneumonia developing from the anesthesia, and incisions cut into your body) for absolutely nothing.

I am only 4 days post-op. My surgeon's instructions are 3 Protein shakes and sugar-free liquids (which was the same as my two week preop diet). Although I'm not hungry, I really want to CHEW something. I know that I can't because I have to allow my stomach to heal.

You said that you somewhat followed your preop diet. After surgery, if you only somewhat follow the instructions, you can really hurt yourself and your band.

Good luck with your journey.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
