First Lap Band Fill

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill since my surgery on Sept 22, 2011. I feel like I am going back to my old habits. I am not losing weight and am eating more than I should. What am I doing wrong? I don't feel full after I eat. I chew slow and watch my portions. Last night I ate a half a bag of popcorn!

You're not the first to experience that. All that you can do is reread your diet instructions and try to follow them. I haven't had a fill and as long as I don't have hunger problems, I won't have one.

If you can just hold until your next fills, you'll reach a point where only a little food will satisfy you. Until then you'll have to reach down deep,

and do the best you can.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should!

In the same boat. Had my first fill last week, and im eating more now then ever. I have no restriction, and can eat anything. I am even able to gulp Water down too. I havent so far gained any weight, but i thought the purpose of a fill (even if it is just your first one) is to feel some restriction that limits your food intake. Im thinking of calling my Dr. to see if thats normal.

Please take a look at the following link - I think it will help you to understand what fills are suppose to do. Good luck!

I get my first fill after Thanksgiving. Does it hurt?? Do they numb the area before injecting the port??

Generally doesn't hurt. My surgeon doesn't numb and it's no worse than the small prick I feel when they take blood.

It took until my third fill to start to feel some restriction.

Hi JoAnn, first of all we're neighbors! Dr. Pham did my surgery...I'm only 2 weeks out so I don'y have a fill until the 30th of this month, but I know what you mean about feeling as though you are eating too much. I can guzzle Water like there's no tomorrow and I don't feel any different than I did a month ago...

For now...Stay strong!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
