How does the band feel inside of your body?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am getting banded on Nov. 11th. One question that I have been thinking of is what the band feels like once you get it? Do you feel that a foreign object is inside of your body or do you just feel the same and get full quicker? Do any of you have issues with the location of the port?

Also when you start losing all the weight, how can you avoid that gaunt sickly look. Some people just dont look healthy. I want to do this right and I am so scared I will get stuck or something...

A few questions from a Dallas, Texas native.

Thanks

I have lost 100 lbs, my face is getting more wrinkles, because when it was fuller, I had less that showed. I don't feel anything but my port. I like the feel of my port, it is reassuring to me! I don't feel anything from the inside. Good luck, Karen

Hello neighbor!! I live in the DFW area. I was banded 7/26/2011 and don't notice anything. During my surgery I had a pretty bad hiatal hernia that he reparied and at the time I thought the pain I was experiencing was from the lap band being too tight but it was actually the hernia repair. The only thing I notice now is the port. Who's doing your surgery if you don't mind my asking?

I don't feel a thing with the band although I can feel the port under my skin. It's a positive reminder of what I am doing . I don't think I am gaunt and sickly, I feel fantastic minus 100lb!

good luck

I am only 7 weeks out so far but I don't feel like there is any foreign object in my body except the port. It just feels weird but like the above posters said it is a reminder of what you are working towards. I have lost 32 lbs and I don't look wrinkly at all so I am hoping my skin holds up with the 59 lbs I have left to lose. I just keep exercising because that is about all I can do for my skin. I think the Vitamins are totally helping my skin too. Good luck!

You cannot feel the band inside of you. It's not possible. Internal organs can feel pain from disease or injury but they do not have nerve ending with the ability to feel something simply touching it.

I'm 2 yrs out and have lost 104 lbs with about 9 left 2 lose. I can't feel anything inside of me but I know its there cuz I can't eat very much. The more weight I lose the more my port stickss thru my skin. My fiance calls it my contraption. I have a little saggy skin in my belly area but have never looked gaunt. With the band its a slower loss than with bypass - those r the people thazt look gaunt.

Good luck to u in ur surgery. I'm so glad that I did it

Marci

I actually just moved from the DFW, Texas area to go to college in D.C. Are you in the actual Dallas or a suburb around?

I don't feel the band at all. The only sensation I ever get from it is feeling full.

As for the port, I can feel it if I press pretty hard on my stomach, but it's not like it protrudes badly or anything.

Avoid that sickly look simply by being healthy. Get the proper nutrition always. That is the best thing you can do to avoid that.

Elizabeth

Hey Elizabeth! I am in lewisville. How do you like D.C.? More expensive? We are having one heck of a windstorm down here in dtown tonight! It's howling outside!

I'm from Grapevine! That's scary! Who is doing your lap band?

I love D.C., but it's just me. I find it to be an incredibly beautiful city with so much history. The architecture blows my mind still. It is way more expensive to live, but I hear wages are adjusted accordingly here, so it does not hurt people as much as we might think. A movie ticket is like $11.25 here. I thought that was absolutely ridiculous when I first came up here.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
