Consultation Monday!

Recommended Posts

So, after finding this website and reading all the positive things that cab come from WLS (banding especially) I've decided I really want this. So I have a consultation this coming Monday, so excited! I wanted to see if y'all had any suggestions on questions to make sure and ask. Also, the lady I spoke with said I could go ahead and schedule a surgery date during this visit. Did y'all have a long wait? I'm also nervous about how long it's going to take for my insurance to approve me, I've already called and verified it IS covered by my secondary ins. But not my primary. I just hope they don't have any stupid stipulations like waiting 6 months on diet, etc.!!

I am definitely in the same boat!! My consultation in scheduled for Thursday! I am so nervous! It is a 4 hour appointment. The woman told me I may be able to set up my appointment the same day as well. However, after reading some posts, I am nervous it won't be that easy. Maybe we can be band journey buddies, since we are so close with our dates!!!

Four hours?!?!? Oh my gosh, no one told me how long it would be. Apparently the way my surgeon does it, the consultation is actually a big group of people considering WLS and he explains every procedure in detail then answers questions and addresses people's concerns and then if you are still interested you stick around and he will meet with each of us one on one to further discuss everything and schedule surgery if all goes well. I just got a ton of emails with forms i had to fill out and now I have to contact my PCP and get all my medical history to bring with me, and they're already looking into my insurance coverage so when I go Monday if everything is there and good I can go ahead and schedule my surgery!! Now I'm stressing out about getting all that stuff together by Monday! I was thinking things were gonna be easy breezy but now I'm realizing this is going to hectic! We can definitely be nervous together lol..Keep in touch and let me know how it goes! Or if you just need someone to chat with about everything..I don't have many people I can talk to about this anyhow.

I got to skip the information group session because my PCP referred me to them. This appointment is for me to meet with a NP, Dietician, Psychologist and the Surgeon!!! This is the first appointment in my journey! They decided after this appointment if I am "worthy" enough for the appointment! ;) AHHH!!!! I am so glad I found a buddy that will be going through the same appointments!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
