First Fill

Recommended Posts

Well, after reading some post, I realized we all have different experiences when it comes to our fills. So I thought I'd share my story.

I have Medicaid, so they cover my fills, which I'm extremely grateful for.

So I went to the hospital where I had my surgery at and I waited and waited for them to call me. (I'm an impatient one)

I finally went into the room, they told me to put my bag on the chair and sit on the bed. As I looked across from me, I see 2 bottles, one small needle, and one LARGE needle, I started to panic! Let me say this is one longgggggggggg needle! blink.gif

Anyways, they told me lie down and pull my shirt up a bit.

I did a GI tract, so they basically x-ray where they port was and while he was hovering around he marked the spot.

His assistant comes in and cleans the area. (Part of me was hoping this was the numbing medicine or something, lol)

Then she says this is going to pinch and burn. She inserted the needle with the numbing agent and it burned but like a paper cut type of feeling, it was nothing. So I'm just waiting, waiting, for them to put that long needle in. A second later, she is telling me I have 3cc in all together. I'm like huh? Then the doctor looked again on the xray and told me to drink some barium, (yuck! ohmy.gif) and decided to put 1cc more. He told me to drink another sip of the barium, and he said it looks good.

So I was like ok, I don't feel anything. Here I am worrying going crazy and she finished before I had a chance to panic again! Lol. biggrin.gif

I had 1.5cc from surgery and they added, 2.5cc making it 4cc total.

So, for anyone who ask if it hurts. I can say it depends on what they do. Some I read have no numbing agent, some don't use x-ray or GI, some doctors just feel around, etc.

But If you don't like pain, I'd recommend asking about the numbing agent, you don't feel anything!!

Good luck to everyone!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
