How much and how often?

Recommended Posts

I started my mushies phase yesterday and I just am confused about how much I should be eating at one sitting. I had cream of potato Soup with cheese added for "lunch" and then had it again for "dinner" both times about 1/2 - 3/4 cup. I had a greek yogurt for Breakfast. and just Water to drink throughout the day.... There is NO WAY this is enough calories for a day. So how MUCH and how OFTEN should I be eating my mushies???

Are you drinking Protein Drinks? And taking your Vitamins? If so, you should be getting in enough nourishment. Yes, after surgery our diets are pretty poor just trying to get some food down, but that is what the suppliments take care of for us. Sometimes it is hard to get it all in at this stage, but just give it your best shot. You definitely need more Protein than what you had yesterday because protein definitely helps us to heal as well as giving us energy.

It sounds like you're doing fine, with the exception of Protein. You need 600 to 800 grams a day.

You can buy protein isolate, which is pure protein, on line or in a health food store to mix into

soup or broth (mix it with cold Water first), or you can buy Protein Drinks, or tubes in Walmart.< /span>

I prefer Costco's Muscle Milk powder (vanilla) best, some hate it, so you're just going to have

to experiment. I hope your surgical program told you all this, they should have. If you have any

more questions, just ask. You'll find this a very helpful group.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
