Lap Band Port Flipping?? Is It Very Common??

Recommended Posts

Ok., I was reading another post about people finding out their ports had flipped. Is this something that happens to a lot of people?? or is it rare? I didn't know it could happen.

It's happened to me before. It isn't that big of a deal, as I was still able to get the fill I needed. I think (am not sure though) that the worst case scenario would be that your doctor would have to fill you with that fluro/ x-ray whatever they call it.

This really isn't anything to get too about upset I think.

I was about four weeks out of surgery when I flipped mine. Hubby was gone and a tree limb had blocked my car in (on my way to work and I couldn't miss) so I moved the limb. It wasn't huge but large enough for the sutures holding my still healing port into place to pop resulting in the port flipping 180 degrees. A few weeks later I went for my first fill. After a very frustrating half an hour of attempting medical sent me to get it under fluroscopy (his office didn't have their own yet). That's when we found it was flipped. I had a second surgery a few weeks after that to replace the port. Although it wasn't damaged the surgeon said that since he was going back in to place more sutures it might as well be a new one. Surgery was super short (less than 2 hours prep to finish) and i went back to work after 2 days, weekend really. He even went in where the first incision was and i ended up with a much better looking scar. Lesson learned though. Doc says no lifting over X number of pounds I listen! That was almost 2 years ago and everything has been fine since.

My port is at an angle... the fill took 4 tries. Hopefully the next one will be better.

I have a lot of discomfort from my port. At my last fill my Dr. said it has turned on its side but I was still able to get a fill.

I am not sure how this happened, but it happened to me. I had to have another surgery, but it was a short one and I healed quickly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
